  4. He's not really 'bashing' is he, more passing comment on what most of us suspect to be the case.

I think he has a point, Wigan need to prepare for their new season. We need to get on with it.

I can understand him getting frustrated with the process taking so long, it's how we would feel if our manager was in talks to maybe going somewhere else. But the guy is just blabbering on about a load of stuff that he doesn't really know publicly.

well there are a few things in this.

    1. as expected whelan has actually shown up the press hacks. we hear matrinez is on a plane so a hack assumes one thing when in fact we now hear precisely where the guy is and what he is doing. i would hope you all apply this to all other press "rumours" or betting "odds"

    2. Whelan is indeed sticking the oar in. he's stirring the pot when in fact he's got no need to and his aim is to try to force a deal and get money (my opinion)

I think we should be diligent and take our time to appoint the right man. If they are that upset then just say no and we move elsewhere, name off the list.

I heard that Rafa was in no way shape or form on the list and wasn't even going to be spoke to? Trying to avoid going backwards or wanting "their" man and not someone the fans would latch to, if results went wrong, round 2 of what is going on?

I think this was from balague.

He's better informed than the media. So he should shut up and let the media get on with it.

I'm pretty certain FSG said they would not reappoint Rafa back when Hodgeson left. So it doesn't surprise me that he may not be approached.

I would love Rafa back and don't think he should have been fired in the first place, but I can see where going back to club legends might make them nervous. I do see that they want the DoF and the manager to be able to get along and both intelligent footy men, old and young or young and young not sure how they will look to do it but hopefully they pick the right pairing.

I didn't see anything wrong with what he said! Ok he is talking about things he may know nothing about but on the other perhaps what he knows came from the likes of Martinez and may be correct, he also said some good things about us but those seem to have been lost on some.

Yep whoever comes in they have to have the right balance and chemistry for it to work. I would love Rafa back, especially with us still have a huge nucleus of his squad but there is no way it would work with a DOF of Van Gaal, perhaps Cruyff would be a better fit. Thats why I think it will still be AVB that gets the nod.

Hasn't he come out or his team come out and said he wants longevity, he wants to be able to do it his way, etc? Would that work with him and a DoF?

No it wasnt lost on me Shanks

"but Liverpool are a big club and I hope that they remain one of the big clubs."

    But then straight after

""But I have to say from what I am hearing the new Liverpool set up on the football side goes well beyond the norm even with a director of football."

He is just saying things that he doesnt need to say publicly. He could just advise Martinez privately which he obviously has but he has no reason to say the bad things about us to the media

I actually quite like Whelan, a nice old man and an old style owner of a club that he cares passionately about. He should stop saying crap to the media though
