Over and over again over the past few seasons I have read every kind of derogatory remark about Richardson at left back, you all know he is crap.

Steve Bruce, premier player then manager, Richardson could be England left back.

Martin O'Neill, god to many who can do no wrong, plays Richardson at left back.

David Moyes, regarded by most in or even above O'Neill standard, looking to buy Richardson to replace Baines at left back.

I am a self confessed numpty, a mere fan and no expert but many are but how are you right and these mangers wrong.

Steve Bruce was playing with the guys ego hoping it would turn him into a reasonable L/B because he never addressed the problem of our L/B area. MON inherited Bruce's mistakes, and the link with Everton is paper speculation in fact it could be classed as "lazy journalism" a phrase often used on here. What you have to remember regarding Moyes is that the best manager in prem history SAF even buys the odd duffer.

I like ricco, just for his efforts and committment, but at best he is only a makeshift LB. IMO.

There, answered, does that make me clever? or just a dick? don't answer, i'll get me coat.

Agree with every point of yours syd - I honestly think he is a decent player and I have said it for a while - if MON isn't pushing for a new contract it'll be because (according to a source close to the player) he doesn't want a new contract and he wants to go - I'd like him to stay but I'm not KR or MON

To begin with, Rico at LB was awful hence the general discussion about why we needed a LB. However the more he played the better he got, if facts change then so do opinions mine have, whilst he is not threatening Cashly Cole atm for an England place, he is quick and has learnt how to play LB. So I am not conerned about the urgent need for aLB we need back up and a few other players can do that, Bardo, Jack etc.

My focus is on a couple of strikers and a winger please get them in first MoN. Campbell I doubt will ever delive,r but he can be on the bench. Mind if Fraizer could learn to tackle back without giving a foul away he could be useful on the right wing.

To be fair he can't have been that bad because when he played their we had one of the best defences in the EPL. He was certainly better than Bridge.

+1 - I've always liked Richardson, especially after the screamer against the skunks.

He's just the latest in a long line of whipping boys for certain parts of our crowd. It sounds like he wants to go so lets get a bit of money for him to add to the funds, or we could lose him for nothing when his contract expires in a year's time.

I have never been a Richardson detractor, but that does not stop me having the opinion that he is far better playing behind the main striker than he ever will be at left back..

    Syd,

I have also seen you talk on here in the past about the need of a left back so obviously you can't rate him that highly either?

To all you Richardson doubters - who would you replace him with who is a better left back (and we could reasonably expect to get)?

Please - not Figueroa, he's poor.

IMO we will struggle to find a better full back than Richardson.

Nowadays full backs are there to not only defend but to also push up and support the winger and give the side another attacking option something Richardson does very well. The likes of Bridge, Warnock etc. would be poor signings as we seen with Bridge he offers very little when he gets over the half way line.

Some people might only want a full back in the side who is a fantastic defender and couldn't care less about there attacking side but the game has moved on, the best full backs in the world for me are Marcelo, Lahm and Alves and they offer there sides so much when the team have the ball let alone trying to win it back especially in a counter attacking side, when you need pace and power all over the pitch and its about getting the ball back to front asap.

If Richardson does go then we need to be looking at a modern day full back such as Bertrand (loan), Taiwo or M'Bengue at Toulouse.

What about that left back at PSG, Tiene or something like that? Seen we have been linked with him, anyone have any news? Also, as Syd stated Moyes has been looking at him. Thing with KR is he is a jack of all trades - master of none. Everyone knows Everton dont have 2 pennies to rub together, so a player like Richardson who can play anyone decently (albeit not amazingly) is something he needs.

Mosy managers see a player in a different way to the fans so maybe the fans are wrong in this case
