Think it will get sorted the press looking for a story because there's no football to speak of now and the transfer window is quiet right now.

Pardew said on the radio that they were opening talks over the summer for a new deal.

Doesn't make sense, taking the risk of losing one of the best scorers around who wants to stay with us. The goals he scores will be worth money in the bank anyway.

As the article says, he is unlikely to pass a medical anyway. A club would need to take a calculated risk as to whether they can manage his situation. On a free, it was worth the gamble. For £7m, no matter how rich the club, I'm not sure there are many managers out there who would take the punt.

Pretty standard really, on a slow news day they'll always revert back to this release clause stuff. Life as a football reporter really is so easy. The Mirror are running a story which says the opposite ie Ba is refusing to negotiate with us. Total bollocks.

At the same time I don't think anyone would really be surprised if he ended up going. Would have been a disaster if we hadn't bought Cisse but the way it is if we invest well to replace him we should be fine.

Utter bollocks and the press making a story that isn't there, old news.

"Alan Pardew has privately acknowledged it is far from certain he will stay"

Why would he "Privately Acknowledge" something like this when he has gone on the public record to say we will be opening negotiations on an improved contract which will remove the clause from the contract.

And to say we are refusing to negotiate, considering the season has only just finished and most of the players etc will be on holiday. Utter bollox

I don't believ this release clause bollocks. If he was available for 7mill, someone would have signed him in Jan when he was joint top scorer in the league. Spurs signed Saha, why would they want him if Ba had been available for such a small amount?

Pardew hs acknowledged that there is a clause of some sort, but exactly what the amounts are and in what situations it is triggered is largely guess work.

It would be worth chucking a million or so at Ba to get him to draw ared line through it but, as pointed out above, Ba isn't a risk free acquisition. The fact that it hasn't goe off yet doesn't mean that Pulis's time bomb comment wasn't correct

Because £7m and £60k a week over a 4 year contract would amount to a total outlay of just under of £19.5m. That is a rather large amount to pay for someone because you need a stop-gap. Add in the fact his knee is dodgy. There won't be many clubs out there willing to spend such an amount in those circumstances.

But Saha will also be on 60k per week there. And he's ****.

Where has £60K a week come from? Cause NUFC don't pay those kind of wages. £50K is our top whack I believe for new signings.
His wage is supposed to be pretty low but made up of incentives (Appearance, Goals scored etc) which would make sense based on his previous medical history.
The clause does exist as Pardew confirmed in his interview with Total Sport

I know it sounds horrible, but if we sign Luuk De Jong and sell Ba I wouldn't really feed bad.

I love Demba, but I've learned not to get attached to players too much, and if we sign a great replacement in his place then whatever I say.

Lambias or Pardew were quoted as saying no-one has bonuses in their contracts relating to goals or appearances.
Martins had one and he would shoot from the halfway line. Led to players being selfish and trying to take everyone on instead of incorporating the team and that, so they suggest, was a contributing factor to our relegation.
Think the only bonus we pay is league position/silverware.
Ba's release clause could be related to relegation (like west ham), summer only, june only, non europe, non CL, bottom half of league, injury (unlikely as Ba requested it), player triggered, other club triggered, other clubs league position triggered. so many possibilities.
He will want more money and to see what his agent can get him elsewhere, we will be sceptical due to injury concerns.
