    From www.nufcblog.com..

The signing of Romain Amalfitano from Reims was announced earlier today by Newcastle.

And while that was expected for a few months now, there is also news today that Newcastle could be bringing in another two Frenchman to the club.

The first one seems highly likely, as Mathieu Debuchy did what Yohan Cabaye did last year, and bid an emotional goodbye to the Lille fans after what was almost certainly his last game for the French club.

Like Yohann Cabaye, before he joined the Magpies, Lille is the only club Mathieu has ever played for, and he joined them back in 2003.

Yohan Cabaye has said his close friend very much wants to join Newcastle, and we could have an announcement from Newcastle on that fairly soon, or so the rumors go.

The other player we are linked with would also be a tremendous signing, and the player is Montpellier captain Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who Newcastle have been linked with him all season.

One advantage the French U21 International has, is that he can play anywhere across the back four, and Alan Pardew wants to sign at least one versatile defender in this transfer window.

Mapou has also been named in the provisional French squad of 27 for the Euro 2012 Championships, and with Tottenham center-back Younes Kaboul out injured and not available, the Montpellier center-back could see himself make the final squad of 23.

We’re not sure if Newcastle will be able to sign these two players before the European Championships, because generally clubs like to hold onto their players and hope they have good tournaments, which will help raise their transfer fee.

But Newcastle on the other hand will want to sign their targets just as soon as possible in the summer, and if they can capture Debuchy and Yanga-Mbiwa, we could be watching four Newcastle players in French colors this summer.

We have no idea if these reports are true, but certainly Debuchy and Yanga-Mbiwa would be great signings for Newcastle – there’s no doubt about that.

    What do you think?

It's certainly interesting, but I'm gonna save my celebration for when it's announced on nufc.co.uk

Seems to all come from a piece in the telegraph the other day, strongly linking us to the two players, but nothing more than that. Both have just finished their seasons (although Debuchy was injured) and now both are with France preparing for their friendlies. Personally, I can't see either coming in quickly, and due to the fact they'll cost us about £16m minimum, I don't see it happening.

Would love to see us move for these two quickly, apart from maybe a LB I'd say that'd be our back four sorted with depth (I assume Santon will be played on the left if Debuchy joins).

That said, at this stage it's still just speculation, albeit quite probable.

If we signed these two and a reasonable striker to get us by during the ACoN (along the lines of Doyle) then I'd say that's us sorted, though Ba may be used to help fund these moves.

I'll be sorry to see any of our current crop leave but if needs must, then so be it.

That was taking a kitty into account. <ok>

£8m from Ba, £25m spent on these two and two reasonable players for depth (ST and LB).

Probably just paper talk but I keep seeing links to that Vurnon Anita from Ajax, left back converted to DM and looks a good player.

Cisse was on the plane to the ACoN when he signed for us.
Contact will have been made weeks ago so it could happen quicker than you expect.
I think the value of our team now means we can spend money early knowing it can be recouped later in the window.
Not something we were able to do a couple of seasons ago.
Incoming players, I would hope, are signed as soon as to give them friendly games and therefore the chance to integrate with the squad prior to the Europa League qualifiers.
Plus signing them before Euro12 gives them the obligatory fortnights rest after the competition and they can use that time to tie up loose ends/move.
That Satka kid was signed and on a plane to Hong Kong almost instantly.

It says really amazing things about our progress that losing Ba or Tiote would cause me less concern than did losing Nolan and Barton.
