Surs have a wage cap so none of their players earn really mega wonga. None of those are star players and would probably either accept a wage drop or aren't on loads at the moment.

Don't you think we should ask about their motivation? Take it from their perspective - having played for Spurs do they really want to come here?? We are a club going forward so we shouldn't really be thinking about players who would think us as a move backwards.

Since when was a player prepared to take a wage cut to play more football a bad motivation? Players do that and if they can accept that they have to do that as time catches up with them, I don't see the problem.

It depends who you are leaving from and going to! If I was a player at PFC and had the opportunity to join Saints, albeit on less wages, I would accept the challenge to prove myself and get a better contract next time round. Not sure that the Spurs players mentioned would be of that mindset?

We are an unknown quantity to many players. We know what we've been doing but most PL players will be going, 'Southampton? Where did they come from?'

I still don't see the problem of someone taking a pay cut to join Saints because they'll play more football. I'd worry if we paid excessive wages to such players though.

The fact that they might expect to play more games could come as a shock when they find that they are just members of a hopefully successful squad.

I would have thought that the players that Tottenham are letting go of would not cost much, I think Pienaar would be cheap, something like 3 million maybe would be enough to get him, he would fit in well in your side and should be good enough to build around. I believe you could get him as he is only onloan at Everton, may be tough and wage may be high but I still think you could get him.
I also think you could get Bassong as he would be a good player for you with the experience he brings it would make him a good player.

Any new players have to fit into the team and not the other way round...I'm not expecting any 'big stars' to be parachuted in.

See what you mean as you have quiet a few that I think will be able to do the job, just like Norwich have shown, the way to stay up there is to not make too many changes, look at QPR, they have shown when you try and change too much it can backfire.
The likes of Lallana, Lambert, Davis, Jose Fonte, Cork, Hooiveld, Sharp and Fox should be able to do a decent job, not sure about the others as they are the main players that I have seen have a lot about them, SO you should only need a few new additions to the team and you should do fine, also what are you doing about Jason Puncheon as he gets loaned out in to the Premiership but when he comes back to you he don't play, does he not really fit in.

None of us quite know where Puncheon fits in:laugh: First he was persona non grata, then he was reprieved, played a couple of good games, then was out again (though he may have been injured). Will be interesting to see if he features next season.

I wonder if he will be sold though as he never seems to feature, and if he did not feature much in the Championship what are his chances if a few new players come in.

Also in his times out on loan he did not play much, I think he only played a few times for QPR.
