Warnock came in, he released Mika and Parker, he sent O'Dea back and didn't take up the option of signing Webber or Robinson, we also sold Howson. The money is sitting in Bates bank account.

He did bring in Pearce though, for £500,000 and whatever his wages are. That's probably Bates' view on the matter.

Not saying I agree with it at all, like I stated before, he has to trust Warnock to bring in his targets early and then he'll deal with getting everyone unnecessary out of the club - Bates needs to gamble a bit on the fact Warnock will eventually sell the rest of the cack we've accumulated, but at the moment nobody's really making that much of a move in the transfer window anyway.

Assume Parker, Mikka, Webber, Robinson, O'Dea were on a 4k a week wage, that is over £1 million a year. Add to that the Howson transfer, no idea what he actually went for but let's assume a lowly figure of £1 million plus his wage, that more than covers Ward and Pearce

Oh trust me I'm not disagreeing at all! The money is there at least for the Ward deal. The thing that annoys me is this sell to buy policy. We need to bring in our first choice signings early else we run the risk of other clubs signing them. Waiting for the likes of Rachubka, Nunez and Paynter to leave is pointless!

If we can't pay the fee what's he supposed to do?

Of course we can, Pompy have said we have made an acceptable offer (along with others). The ball is in this lads court.

We made the offer, they accepted, we won't pay up. You can't just ignore every respectable source to make up your own theory.

If it's that clear cut, why are all the press 'sources' tweeting today that it's between us & Ipswich? Surely they'd be discounting us if we didn't have the money?

"Acceptable" does not necesarily mean "accepted."

Another club may have submitted an even more, better "acceptable" offer.

I don't think Pompy are in a position to hold us to ransom. He will due another wage in a weeks time & they might not have it.

My guess is Ward's agent trying to get a extra money... But we wont move!!!

Eric Lichaj is always another option, the new Villa manager might want to move on some players.

I'd prefer Lichaj tbh <ok> Villa manager will probably at least want a look at him before selling though.
