Ian Ayre today insisted Liverpool are continuing to make progress as they edge closer to making a decision over their stadium.

The Club's Managing Director says the Reds are still exploring the two options available to them - redeveloping Anfield or building a new ground in Stanley Park.

"There is progress and we are still in dialogue on both fronts," Ayre said.

"We have got more dialogue going with the Anfield residents than we ever have, as with other stakeholders in and around Anfield.

"We want to explore both options to a solution and I think it's fair to say if we continue making progress in that area, it might move faster than we originally anticipated.

"I think it's also fair to say that we are already fairly well down the line with a couple of major brands who have shown significant interest in naming rights for a new stadium. Part of the problem is that people assume that because we don't make a major announcement, because we can't show any spade in the ground, that nothing's gone on and no progress has been made.

"The most important thing for us, especially under this owner, has been about certainty on the stadium. There's been too many times when people have said 'we're doing this' and then it didn't happen.

"We are not going to make comments that we're doing something until we've got certainty. And that certainty quite often is in other people's hands.

"In the case of staying at Anfield that certainty is with residents in and around that area that we would need to convince. When we have that certainty we will make the announcement and move on it.

"It's only right to make announcements when you've got the right solutions. It's alright for people to say Liverpool's a big football club - 60,000 seats, why don't you just go and get on with it? But go and look at the economics of that - of a £300 million build for 15,000 new seats.

"It's pretty hard to make that stack up. The work is going on and a decision will be announced when we've got certainty."

Says exactly what I'v been saying. Just because they havnt made an announcement it doesnt man they are doing nothing.

It is fantastic that they are speaking to the Anfield residents.

If they made announcements it would be pretty dull.
'Today we met with a representative from B&Q, who are hoping to provide on the nails and floor panels for the new stadium. We are looking into this after Wicks insisted on putting there name on it if they provided any thing, and the Wicks Stadium sounds lame'.
'Today we spoke to Alan Titchmarsh about how to get a perfect pitch'.

What company's would you and wouldnt you want given naming rights on the new stadium?

Every one seems to like Airlines.

I'd like it if Warrior Sports got the naming rights - i.e. the Warrior Area (cringe, I know!) but at least it would make the stadium sound a little intimidating.

And vague it is <ok> I told the missus I was making progress with the decorating because I'd been and got some paint charts <whistle> amazingly she seemed somewhat sceptical.

In all seriousness I appreciate that this isn't an issue that is entirely of FSGs doing. Its rumbled on for decades now and no action has been taken and meanwhile costs increase and increase. Had LFC had a bit more foresight in the early '90s this could have been resolved a long time ago. Also FSG have (as others have in the past) to deal with Liverpool City Council....the most useless and least forward thinking public body outside of Haiti. If only we had a man like Sir Howard Bernstein running our city we would be a whole heap better off <ok>

It's appreciated that at least they have come out and said no news yet however I seriously think we need to start facing the cold hard truth about what might have to happen if we are to increase capacity....on which note I think I will do a thread to gague peoples opinions.

The title is somewhat misleading because there is no progress. This is a rehash of what was said 6 months ago and 6 months before that.
Wake me when there is something new to report.

if they are worried about investing 300Million for an extra 15000 seats......then just make it moore economically viable and invest 350mm for an 80,000 seater stadium...(look how i just pulled those figures out of the air)

Then put ticket prices down so we fill it week in week out, then put the prices back up again.

if they want to take us back to the top....build an 85000 seater, then we are the biggest club stadium in the country....Glad to see they are looking at it, but hope something concrete come sout soon.....
