Sure you will all be moved by this sad story. Aston Villa striker Darren Bent says England manager Roy Hodgson has assured him he will be a part of his plans for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Bent, 28, was not named in England's Euro 2012 squad after failing to recover from an ankle injury. But Bent said: "He [Hodgson] told me I would be part of the World Cup qualifiers. "My aim now is to perform well for Villa next season and then hopefully I will be picked by England as well." Bent's Premier League season was brought to an end back in February, when he suffered ankle ligament damage in a game against Wigan. It is the third third time Bent has suffered international disappointment, having not been selected for the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. "Training the next day after I found out [I wasn't selected] was hard. The fitness guy at Villa even told me I looked a bit demotivated," Bent added. "It was hard to take initially but now it's about bouncing back and moving on." Despite his disappointment, Bent praised the way Hodgson handled his situation. He said: "Roy rang me and told me he couldn't pick me for the Euros because I hadn't played any games and so he couldn't take the chance of taking me to a tournament. "I've had three phone calls now to tell me I wouldn't be going to various tournaments but Roy's was the best and he was understanding and really good with me on the phone."
That really makes me feel better, However i will feel a lot better if he gets the same calls everytime we have a tournment on and if Bruce ever got the England job i think his days as an England player could well be over lol
2 years from now, I doubt Bent will be at Villa. He will have ****ed off somewhere else for more dosh. He will think that by going to a team like Liverpool he will be guaranteed a place in the England squad, but will probably play second fiddle to Mandy and Suarez while Liverpool slip further down the ladder...
Don't think he'll ever do it now, will be getting on a bit then. Needs to show form like he had at us and I don't see that happening at Villa. Good.
