Remy still wants to sign apparantly but only if Harry stays (is that really in doubt?) http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/hooray-for-harry-loic-remy-will-still-844130 Apparantly we are haggling over price - what a surprise
I guess you mean that he's already got a column for his Spurs career? It also said he's dropped the Eredvise Championship Plate 2 years running which I didn't believe so ended up searching for it and it's true Apparently the otherday someone changed Downing's assists for last season to -2 on his Wikipedia.
whoops. yeah, i thought i'd put that, must have deleted it! "spurs"... they couldn't even be bothered to make it look real and put "tottenham hotspur". hahaha, Downing! that's class!! wiki shouldn't be that easy to edit though!
All very positive stuff lads, but as the cliche goes "lets wait till they are pictured holding/wearing a Spurs shirt with 'Arry nearby"
Downing's the new Heskey it seems. According to some paper(think it was the Mirror) Dynamo Kiev are looking to buy Kranjcar and Charlie off us for up to £10mill. Doesn't seem like enough to me, they don't really fit in for us anymore but they're still very good players, in my opinion. I'd rather we waited to see whether they have a good Euros to boost their value.
selling krancjar would be a massive schoolboy, but he's one of those players that harry never plays. he can change games but he just needs a bit more game time. as for corluka, he's a decent rightback. completely different to walker, but still has good qualities and he's a calm player. - works well with lennon in a different way. 10 mill is pretty good though YV. I think we'd struggle to get too much more. perhaps 12-13 if we're lucky. - and that's all because krancjar hasn't played much. if he had, he's easily worth 8-9mill. But as a result of no game time, we'll probably only get 5mill, so a total of 10mill.
Kranjcar just doesn't work in our system though. He's no replacement for either of our wingers due to his lack of pace, he struggled in Modric's role and we've never really seen him in VDV's role but since Rafa's such an automatic pick we're never going to be able to give him the amount of games he needs. We bought Corluka when he wasn't being played either for £8mill so I don't see why we should settle for so much less. £13mill would be a reasonable amount I think and that extra few million could've already had the Vertonghen deal tied up or could pay about half of Hoilett's compenation or gone towards Adebayor's signing on fee. These are two quality internationals that we shouldn't be selling on the cheap like Bentley and Jenas.
It all goes to pieces when they join us though. VDV used to be good at scoring from set pieces, as did Bale.
As with all sports, you need to practice certain aspects. I'm sure i saw someone (VdV?) saying we don't practice set pieces. THAT is the problem, not the personnel.
yeah fair one YV, a shame though. I'd have liked to have seen him be rotated in to the squad, VDV looked out of ideas at times. with Levy's negotiating skills, we'll probably get 13mill too. looks like the reports could well be true. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7773261/?
I'll be sad to see Kranjcar leave, but it's pretty inevitable. He started in both of what were arguably our best performances last season, the 4-0 against Liverpool and the 5-0 against Newcastle. We might also be seeing that back of the Croatia-Tottenham connection, sadly.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/7772799/Hazard-terms-agreed-with-trio £200k p/w? wow. wasn't expecting that. then again, after how long this saga has gone on for, it's not actually surprising.
I'm not bothered about Corluka really, he won't dislodge Walker on merit and isn't happy on the bench. Naughton has proved to be equally good cover with Norwich and can play both sides aswell so has 'utility' value....Corluka on the left!
Krancjar has not got the pace to excell for us, nor does he have the combative qualities to play as a holding midfielder. He is a very talented player, who in a Spanish or Italian side would look fantastic. For us though, unless we try him in the Modric role (not sure he could cover the ground required) he cannot help but slow up attacks. As for Corluka I think he has a lot to offer, especially in tandem with Lennon, but surely he has burnt his bridges with what he said about the club in the press?
I still think that Kranjcar could do a great job in the van der Vaart role, especially in the cups. A central pairing of Huddlestone and Sandro playing behind him, with a couple of decent wingers and someone that can actually play the lone striker role and our squad depth would be pretty decent. Redknapp seems to use him sparingly and sometimes pretty inappropriately though, so I think he'll go. Playing him on the right at the Emirates was pretty silly, for example.
His contract ran out, and they didn't want to renew it - presumably because his wages were high, a hangover of the O'Neill era that nobody seems to want to admit to. Brad Guzan's a free agent - worth bringing in as cover? Or would having two American keepers named Brad, both signed on frees from Villa, look weird?
I dunno about this. You don't have to have like-for-like replacements. In some ways perhaps it's better to have variety. For instance I think there would be times when the superior positioning and use of the ball that you get with Charlie is better than the pace and, er, pace of Walker. (And you don't necessarily need pace to nullify pace either - remember when Hutton was getting murdered by young a couple of seasons back and Charlie came on for him and dealt with it. Oh - maybe it wasn't Hutton. Was it Zokora?!) Anyway - Krancjar's done a great job for us on the left before. Don't see why he can't again. Last summer there was talk about him going for something like £5m. I just don't get it. He has to be worth twice that, doesn't he? Experienced international for a decent national team, in his prime and proven to be able to cut it at the top level, scoring important and high quality goals. That sort of CV starts the bidding at £10m, doesn't it? I mean - he's just worth more than Jaime O Hara, isn't he? (And I ****ing love Jaime O Hara) And more than Zokora. And more than half a Peter Crouch. And that's not even taking Liverpool fees as my examples (as is de rigueur nowadays).
