What is going on with gillingham fc, why are they treating players and ex players so badly ???

of late the club have rubbed a few up the wrong way....that we know of !!!

first simon king finding out he'd been released on twitter, rather than the club. this all after the club gave him the impression that he'd maybe get some sort of deal...all be it...p.a.y.p.
and secondly they have now cancelled the friendly vs diss town(robert taylor manager), saying they will instead play dartford. all after a small club like diss town has paid out on advertising for the match !

these two players having in particular praised the club so much as well !

not good to see, very poor for us as a professional club :emoticon-0149-no:

    shouldn't the thread title be;
    Ruining of the club's integrity-
gills,oxon4everandaday the examples you have illustrated causes unnecessary and avoidable ( at least as it concerns Simon King ) bad press for the club. We might be a small club - but I was hoping to avoid being called a joke club because of gross unprofessionalism.

sorry always, but to right it's bad press for the club.
pehaps i could of worded things differently, but i'm sure the club could of handled things differently also !

i love this club as much as the next man, but don't agree with certain aspects of late !!!

Diss town's pitch and facilities may have been shockingly bad. Bad press is one thing but we dont want a repeat of last years injury or another simon king injury.

Agree about kingy though. such a great player in my opinion and he has shown his loyalty to the club. absolute joke the way he has been treated.

It is the problem with today's news hungry lifestyle, people expect information 24 hours a day so there is no longer time to do this properly anymore, not an excuse but merely a comment.

The King situation was poor but I would like to think that the club made an effort to contact him before making it public. The problem with twitter et al is that as soon as anything is made public it spreads like wildfire. In the past you probably could release a press release prior to telling a player safe in the knowledge that it probably won't get out for 24hours, not now. I would like to think that the club was trying to make contact with King whilst the story was put on the web, but unfortunatley the web version found Simon first.

The Diss situation is blown out of all proportion, friendlies are cancelled all the time. Would anyone give two hoots if it wasn't for Bob Taylor being in charge

BSG - you basically sum up my thoughts on the matter.

To give a bit more clarity to it, I personally rely on three main news sources out of the absolute dozens that are available, like you say which are going to spread like wildfire. Firstly all news sources that are to be relied upon will come from the official site. Although for 'rumours' we jump on other stories beforehand.

Now many people I expect like myself do not directly go to the official site but are linked in by the second source, newsnow. I know if I do any work for Vital it normally hits the newsnow with a very short space of time, I am not sure but lets say they probably spider every 20 minutes (guess), although realistically the stories are actually hitting within a 5 -10 minute timescale. So you have a timescale of between 5 - 20 minutes before the whole world knows. I will give you an example; when I contacted Stephen Constantine, within no more than 15 minutes (time stamps on email and reports) a newspaper had written an article confirming his interest and published before I could even draw my next breath - lol. Then thirdly everyone reads these stories and twitter has a surge of everyone tweeting on the latest news.

So what ever time the official site publishes or alerts any other media, the whole circus process is out in the domain quicker than the employer or agent that might be struggling to get hold of his client.

Although lessons have obviously not been learned from previous instances but that is a whole new story.

Was there not a bit of an issue last pre season? when I believe a newspaper reported our new signings before the club had chance to do everything in an official manner. That is the cut throat world of journalism everyone wants to be first with breaking news, sadly this time the fault appears to be with the O/S.

I will hasten to add we have not heard the clubs version of events, although I would have thought there had been plenty of opportunity to respond by now. I am sure within time, the situation will be addressed but in the meantime it appears a complete fiasco.
