The very first event of the games – a women’s football match featuring Team GB in Cardiff – has so far sold just 11,000 tickets, leaving most of the huge 74,500-seater ground empty.

Another football game in Cardiff has sold just 3,000 tickets – just 3% of the Millennium Stadium’s capacity. And 259,000 tickets remain for the Olympics’ football games in total.

The Cardiff’s city centre venue will host 11 football games between 25 July and 10 August. Team GB Women’s team kick off the the first event of the Olympic Games against New Zealand on July 25, while in the men’s tournament highlights include Great Britain versus Uruguay on August 1.

Football fans will also have the opportunity to watch Brazil play Egypt in Cardiff on July 26.

Tickets start at £20 for adults, with special prices available for people under 16 and over 60 at many matches. ‘Pay your age’ prices are available for those under 16 and tickets for people aged 60 or over will be priced at £16. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Millennium Stadium General Manager Gerry Toms said: “Tickets to watch Olympic football at the Millennium Stadium will go on public sale tomorrow and this is fantastic news for the football fans who have missed out during the previous phases of ticket sales.

“With great availability on tickets from £20 for adults and special prices for children, I’m sure sports fans in Wales will want to book their places to be part of the first ever Olympic Games in Wales.”

Customers can purchase between 20 and 30 tickets for the Olympic football matches to encourage groups to attend.

No offence to the 'laydies' but I'd rather stick pins in my eyes. They always look as if they're kicking with the wrong foot to me.

Forgive me for being cheap, but tickets start at twenty quid?! There's a game where they've sold 3k out of 75k of the tickets and they're still charging 20 quid? Good for UK my ****ing arse, charge a fiver and poor people will be able to see the Olympics too. Rip off ****ers.

Can you tell I think the Olympics is a massive waste of money?

agree scott, I'm not against the olympics in principle ,I'm against the prices they charge that only the top earners can really afford. With the country in double recession because of the posh boys policies who dont live in the real world who give the rich a tax break and take money of the vulnerable then it makes my blood boil when they say we are all in this together when its clearly not the case, We as a country cannot afford to run these games that is going to cost every one of us at the end of the day with a few making a profit. i dont know what sort of figure it is to run this glorified sports day but it wont be cheap and we simply cant afford wasting money while some people like our pensioners cant heat their homes or eat proper food. the money that is wasted on these olympics should be put to get this country out of poverty. I love sport of any kind but the good of the country must come first and at this time we cannot afford to spend millions on this over priced high cost luxury for the few and ignore the poor...

Of course the "country cannot afford to run these games".

Everybody knows that, but we,the mass of population, are mere pawns in this vast extravaganza, this orgy of waste.

We are bit part players in the game that is being played out on a daily basis. It was ever thus.

The average person in the street will have to fork out their hard earned money to purchase tickets that are,in the main, very expensive.

Often having to submit their names into raffles, etc., to get a chance of a ticket. Chancing to luck.

Not the BEST tickets,of course, for they will all be set aside for the likes of Mrs. Windsor, her offspring and sycophants;politicians and their families;people at the top;tenth rate celebs, etc.

No having to go through selection procedures, for that lot.

Jollies, and junkets will be very much the order of the day,or however many days the damn thing will last.

Lots of photo ops,so the population can enjoy seeing the aforementioned at play.

Television cameras will home in on the "celebs",so we can all feel some form of envy.

Knowing one's place, that's the name of the game, what?

I want no part of it. It will pass me by,and I won't feel cheated,or that I had missed anything.

That's how I feel about this nonsense thay call The Olympic Games.

P.S. I didn't mention drugs,no need I suppose. They will presumably be taken to excess.
