I'd happily pay for their cabs out of White Hart Lane. In all honesty, I would accept bids of around £5m for the pair, just to get 'em off the wage bill like you say. Pointless keeping them around, we can use their wages towards giving/ offering the likes of Kaboul, Modric, Bale, Rafa etc rises & extensions.
I'd happily let a few of those go to relieve the embarrassment of having to call them Spurs players. Sod the fees and the wages.
Let's be honest, some of these players are going to have to look at the Championship if they want regular football. As a result, we'll not get a huge amount of cash for them. This is something we need to accept, cut our losses now, and remove them from our books
Given that we need to generate some funds to sign players, that's the worst decision possible. There are players that we should release on the books, but they're the utter dross that aren't even Premier League standard like Alnwick and Obika. Some players we do need to get rid of to the first reasonable bidder - Bentley, Jenas and Khumalo - but they could be as valuable in a cash + player deal, for example using Bentley as a makeweight in a deal to bring a Clint Dempsey or a Jack Rodwell, to pluck a couple of names out of the air, to WHL. It's entirely possible we could receive a good offer for Dos Santos and Bassong, so ditching them at the first opportunity is utter madness - whilst I'd prefer we kept Corluka, Kranjcar and Pienaar at the club as they're all useful players to have on the bench, the same going for one of Gallas and Nelsen. Saha may be out of contract already, whilst the same is possioble for Gomes and Cudicini (which is remarkably careless on our end)
There are some players that I think are good enough for a squad place at WHL that I'd still like to leave the club. If Redknapp doesn't value them or intend to use them, except in utterly desperate circumstances, then we're better off replacing them. Kranjcar and Pienaar are two of them, though the latter is probably only going to be happy as a starter.
Gallas, Saha and Nelson were all free transfers so no financial loss involved Jenas cost around £6-7m in 2006/7...was a good player for us for a while ... if he recovers from his injury we could well get a 2-3m for him. Dos Santos cost us 8m and we'll be luck to get 3m for him (never produced on his limited opportunities). Gomes - as above (no cut out for premier league) Corluka cost 7m and I can see us getting 4m for him (was good for us when he first came) Bassong cost 8m and we will be lucky to see 3-4m (never progressed as he looked like he would) Bentley cost 16.5m ....WTF was comolli thinking????????? complete write off Pienaar cost 2.5m .... not really given a chance but we will comfortably make 4-5m selling him Kranjcar as above... That would mean we raise (lowest figures) £23m selling them (nil for bentley, gallas, nelson, saha,) I'd take that....there is no point keeping them as they aren't going to play...the only doubt is that maybe Pienaar will be a good player if or when Modric goes in the short term.
You raise a decent point about Pienaar. His form for everton since january was stunning. If we could get that sort of performance out of him then he could be our new Modders. The problem is that it kinda feels like the boat has sailed. You get the feeling he just doesn't want to be at spurs any more.
Your feeling is more accurate than you think, Pienaar couldn't settle here and wasn't happy in London, not so much about not playing, he was injured a lot, so he couldn't really have any complaints. He also said he found some of his team-mates cliquey (a little surprised at that one tbh, just whinging I think) In Jan he virtually begged Harry to let him go back to Everton, and his form at Everton since, is because he's happy there, its an important thing often ignored.
The annoying thing is that most of this lot could have been sold ages ago, when they were still worth something.
I read that Kranjcar and Corluka might be off to Dynamo Kiev for £10m. Personally, i think they're 2 of the better ones. I like Kranjcar and i think he hasn't been given a fair crack.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ko-Kranjcar-Vedran-Corluka.html#ixzz1vddZjdpe I think £10m for the pair would be excellent for us
West Ham, Sunderland, Villa & Stoke like buying our dead wood. If they don't want then maybe we can put them on ebay?
