i have always liked spurs as a football club but after reading through so much anti chelsea cr*p on this board i think you all need to realise that it is your fault that you have been hoofed out of next seasons CL not chelsea's "flukey undeserved" CL triumph. you had 3rd place in the bag and it should of been the goons kicked out not spurs but redknapp started twitching and bottled it. i would love to see spurs get one over on the @rse but yet again you got owned by them. Blame happy harry.

I could also draw your attention to far worse first replies to such threads...sore trigger finger those times? Be consistant is all I ask. <ok> I'm leaving it there, you should too.
 
Werther's it's a frustrating situation because no matter how much we messed up the end of the season all our good work done up to that point still mean we'd deserved fourth which is almost always enough for a CL place. I don't think anyone ignores that there are other factors that led to us missing out but the rest have been discussed at length and I really don't think there has been excessive anti-Chelsea sentiment on here either. Maybe there has been in the match thread at the time but once we all calmed down and sobered up I can't see your point.

Yid - I know that you deleted one of my posts.
I wish to apologise to all Spurs fans who may have been offended by my language - I should have at least used the NSFW function. But the words that I used in my reply were the same words that were thrown at me on the Chelsea board - namely the I feel I must complain thread.
 
There's a combination of things here. Yes, of course it's partly our fault. We had third place in the bag. Or so Harry thought. The Harry for England bollocks came up, and it all turned to **** - the reasons for which have already been widely discussed on here.
UEFA is also to blame. Their ruling has allowed this to happen. Of course, the holders must be allowed to defend their title, but at such great cost to another club? No. They have made the assumption that, whoever the winners may be, they would already be occupying one of their country's qualifying places - which, of course Chelsea are not.

Chelsea, as fortunate as they may be to be the CL winners, are not to blame for our misfortune. That lies with ourselves, and UEFA's blind inflexibility.
 
I actually agree with the rule. I wouldn't want to see 5 Spanish or Italian teams or extra berths full stop. We criticise the comp for being too big and full of non champions so I can't support this. Why not blame Liverpool for being too **** to qualify by place, drawing UEFA's attention to it 7yrs ago. Its our own fault nobody else.

Yes, but the current ruling states allows that the team that finishes fourth in the EPL is given entry to the CL qualifying stages. This is not happening only because Chavski won the competition. What UEFA's ruling didn't account for, is that their champions would also finish outside of the normal qualifying parameters in their own league. That needs to be changed, IMO.
 
Also, bear in mind, that the PL only has 4 qualification spots due the large amount of coefficient points it has, which have been mostly earned by Chelsea and Man Utd in the last 6 years (Both teams have gotten to two finals, and regularly make the quarters and semis).

Yes, but that's not the point. That IS UEFA's current ruling. My contention is with the fault in their mechanism that has excluded us, despite the fact that we have met their criteria for qualification.

Well yeah I agree with you. The ruling is a little absurd in my opinion. I am glad alot of you arent blaming Chelsea for your exclusion from the CL. My point was that Chelsea are a big part of the reason we have kept 4 spots open in the first place. I still dont think it fair that you were excluded though, if you qualify, you qualify......given the financial implications of getting into the CL, I dont think it fair that a team should make the grade and be cut through no fault of their own.
 
Our season got derailed by the speculation linking our manager with the England job.
I find it hard to believe that it was a coincidence that the only time during the whole campaign that we had bad form was during that period.

Probably.
Unfortunately we can't go out in January and spend £76m on two players to help us through, like one team did in the previous season.
 
Well, imo it doesn't need changing, we could cite hundreds of rules in life that have a 'but', some suit us, some don't, if we were 3rd and the Goons 4th, would we want them in as a 5th team?, or another country having 5 in, no, it'd be rules are rules and tough ****....or would we? <confused>

To be fair, this situation would not occur very often. Normally, the CL champions are already occupying one of heir country's qualifying places - so no problem. This situation, which UEFA have not legislated for, only occurs when an unexpected winner comes along, who has also failed to qualify by the league position criteria. It's surely not too much to ask UEFA to make an exception for a situation that may well not occur again for many years.
Yes rules are rules, except when they are stupid and unfair rules. Then, they need to be changed.
 
looking at it from this point of view,out of arsenal & Chelsea,who would you have preferred to win it first?.for me it's chelsea,if arsenal had done it we would never hear the end of it from the goon's.
