I guess the journos are assuming we need to replace Modders. They've looked at how many goals he scored last season and they've assumed he's a defensive midfielder. Talking of Modders, obviously the rumours are starting up again but so far i've not actually seen any mention of Chelsea. The only club i've seen him linked with is Real Madrid. That is good news (as long as we don't end up with a defensive mid in part exchange) I would've thought the team that needs him most in England is Utd, but i guess they don't have enough notes.
Yeah, pack him off to Madrid if we can. He'll probably never get played for two years and get sold to Fenerbahce but I'm sure he'll be happy as long as he's banking his £130k cheques each week.
If Modric wants to go he needs to go now so we can get a suitable replacement. As it's the euro's it will probably drag on and then we will be in the **** . I can see the same happening with RVP at Arsenal (if he leaves).
do we stand a chance? i know we've beenlinked in the past and there's the partnership between us and inter, but we've had opportunities in the past and not made it happen. are we now out of the running? http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7770782/Damiao-hints-at-move
I have a feeling he's going to be just like Hazard. this transfer, to whoever it might be, could go on all summer. we have 2-3 weeks to wrap our signings up. otherwise we're buggered.
Damaio is another one of those transfers where we had our chance and blew it for the sake of a couple of million. Like Cahill last summer and hopefully NOT like Vertonghen. He'll go to a bigger club than Spurs now methinks
He's a holding player, not the quickest, but pretty good at reading opposition attacks and breaking them up. Would be a good signing for you, but manUre are after him.
In the case of leandro, it was his agent playing silly buggers that was the problem. We've had that happen a few times (Diego and Arshavin springing to mind), which can't really be blamed on Levy.
My figures might be wrong, please correct me if they are. I seem to remember us bidding £12m and being told "£16m and he's yours" (probably not exactly those words). While there may have been a certain amount of silly buggery going on there, and you're right i can't blame Levy, the £16m price still looks like a snip now. Last i heard it was £22m and i think its likely to be higher when he actually goes too.
at least sky are confirming the reports. It's always a bit more encouraging when sky confirm something http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7771211/Levy-in-Vertonghen-talks Levy: I would like Jan please. Ajax: 15 mill euro'sh pleash. Levy: Naaa. Ajax: err... yesh. Levy: 9 million Ajax: no Levy: hmmm. but he only has a year left! Ajax: sho? Levy: hmmmm, coffee? that conversation would have lasted all of about 15 mins, tops. what the **** is going on? Is Levy killing 2 birds with 1 stone and seeing a hair transplant specialist whilst he's...oo... I know what he's up to. Alllllright Dan!!!
I've never understood why these things take so long. 1 - Clubs agree on price: Yes - goto 2 No - go home 2 - Player wants to play for X Yes - goto 3 No - go home 3 - Player agrees terms Yes - sign up No - go home
I've just got this image in my head of Levy sat outside a coffee shop, absolutely blazed off his box, smoking a massive bob marley. hahahahaha Vertonghen? I'll deal with that tomorrow.
1 and 3 can take some time to negotiate, though. Working out terms nowdays must be a nightmare, with all of the extras that players seem to want. Image rights is a fairly ridiculous one, in my opinion.
We did come back with a £16m offer, and when we did we were informed his price had gone up - as well as his agent talking about offers from Barca, Real, Juventus, Inter, PSG et al...none of which seem to have been considered by Internacional, considering the fact he's still there and not in Spain, Italy or France.
surely the price doesn't take that long? I can understand personal terms taking ages. but other that the structure of payment and what period.... what else actually needs to be discussed? here's a link with "proof" of him with Vertonghen's agent. http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/ajax/12180088/__Vertonghen_in_wachtkamer__.html Looks like it's just a matter of time now.
Fair enough Croyds, didn't realise that. Silly buggery indeed. Edit - sorry, Croyds sounds a bit like a nasty disease. I'll refrain from that in the future
