Too much too young. Not yet offered a senior contract like the other 7. At least another year to wait.
I can see our back 4 being something like: Ward Mills (season loan option to buy) Pearce Hill Would be the best defence we have had in a long time
That would be quality but I can't see us getting Mills. In truth though I think Hall may be an option from QPR, I've always thought he is a good CB although starting to age

It is believed the Owls were reluctant to pay the £450,000 transfer fee cash-strapped Pormpey are demanding for Ward. Sources on the south coast say four to five clubs are in advanced talks with Ward’s representatives, having had bids accepted by Portsmouth. Blackpool, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Ipswich Town are understood to be in the hunt to sign Ward and the youngster is expected to leave Fratton Park before the end of the week. Leeds, managed by former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock, appear to be in pole position to land the highly-rated Ward. Portsmouth’s administrator Trevor Birch, the ex-Blades chief executive, said: “It [a deal for Ward] has taken time. We have all been waiting on this one, hopefully it can go through soon.” All rumours and sniping aside, I wonder what has "taken the time" in this case. Maybe because Portsomuth had the time, having already taken funding from us? That seems likely. Nice to read we are thought to be in pole position. That could be Pearce's and Warnock's influence.
- I just wonder if we have sat around the table once with Portsmouth and Pearce why we didn't go in with a double swoop in the first place, say to Portsmouth here is £900k for the pair. With Warnock 'previously' confident to have 3-4 in place by Friday you have to wonder if he also assumed we would take these two together, if we truly are after Halford as well can you imagine Portsmouth hanging around had they not received the Pearce fee already and we had went in with a 1.5 million or in the region of offer for all three... Agreed also - sniping aside the only reports I have read stating we were not in the driving seat do seem to be coming from Ipswich, I just don't want to get too excited about this one till it happens.
PhilHayYEP No progress on the Joel Ward deal as far as I can tell. Increasingly likely that another club will sign him #lufc
My sources (ie I just made it up right now) tell me that we only had £400k. So we got Pearce. We don't have any other money until we sell or offload wages. Impossible for us to go in with a £900k or a £1.5m offer. The original £400k was probably pushing things a little far in Bates's mind. Twat.
For what it's worth ..... Sean ‏@carrics3 @DuncanCastles hi duncan have you any news on #lufc front? Whats up with ward deal? Neil warnock to walk before season starts?? Duncan Castles ‏@DuncanCastles @carrics3 Leeds United confident that Joel Ward's transfer from Portsmouth will go through before long. #LUFC #PFC
Can't we just do a straight swap for Paynter? http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-whites-news/leeds-united-pompey-in-for-billy-paynter-1-4574259
Again reports that we can't afford the £400k up front payment http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....-a-frustrating-may-for-neil-warnock-1-4576482
From message number 57 beneath the YEP article posted by ristac above "57 superhoops86 Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 02:19 PM I think this is a landmark moment for the club. The final defence that Ken Bates and his supporters had is that the club was being well run, and was in a financially solid state. We were all told this repeatedly. With the news that we have been unable to get 400k together for this important transfer, we can now conclude that this last bastion has now fallen. " Josh - it's in italics and quotes for you. The following is my take. You may wish to read the actual article before lambasting me for actually having an opinion on this issue and supplying it. We can't raise £400k. Is that because all the season ticket money that came in by end January was already destined for other people because we had overstretched on building the ****ing East Stand while we have no-one to fill it? Cashflow is non-existent. Our club is in financial dire straits, as I stated previously. We will be in more dire straits if we part with money for Ward, so my previous optimism has evaporated. The only way this club can go forward is to offload players quickly, bith off the wage bill and through transfer fee income. But I predict that money would then be needed to pay everyone else's wages. Plus you have the way the accounts were made up Can someone please tell me in what way, shape or form that this club is being "well run"? Does not appear to be financially well-run at all.
