Nine of them in Lancashire. Hull not on there. But seriously, Liverpool having half of the top 10, that's just ridiculous. Bet there's some horrible places to be after dark in that "Capital of Culture" skidmark of a city. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-18137739
In fairness, I just checked and it's England rather than the UK. Oops. Mods can change the title of they so wish. Did wonder why Glasgow or SWANSEA didn't feature. Massive ****holes.
Not so sure I agree about Glasgow. Perhaps Glasgow 30 years ago, but not now. Obviously not been to the right places. Every city has it's share of ****holes, tbh, and Leeds is no exception.
The worst areas of Glasgow still have life expectancies of around 45-50, don't they? Leeds has rough areas (rough, not necessarily 'deprived'), but not that bad. The question isn't just 'where has ****holes,' it's 'where has the most' and 'where has the worst?'
I'm afraid I don't see the link between life expectancy & whether a city is a ****hole or not. The poor Scottish diet has nothing to do with the accepted ciriteria of living conditions/amenities etc. People confuse Glasgow nowadays with the Glasgow of old. Generally these people have never spent any time there, but still deride it. For example, the area known as 'the Gorbals' is still considered to be a shocking aread. The reality of the matter is that it reached it's height of notoriety in the 50s with the razor gangs, and was demolished in the 60/70s. It effectively doesn't exist. Other large 'schemes' has changed dramatically. People ever buy houses now in most of the supposedly 'rough' areas. Glasgow's not so bad, believe me. Would rather be there than a lot of places. Btw, Glasgow has never had a 'no-go' area to police, unlike Leeds with Chapeltown!
I'll take your word for it, although I suspect drug and alcohol abuse have more to do with it than diet.
Chapeltown is a police "no go" area? As in, the police just stay out of it because it's too much hassle?
There is a parody account for Roy Chubby-Brown on Twitter and he's just tweeted this. Thought you might enjoy it. I love English towns and cities with a triple barrelled name, like Kingston-on-Thames or Stoke-on-Trent and....Bradford-on-Benefits!
It may surprise you Jerel, but Edinburgh was at one time crowned as the AIDS capital of Europe. It may still have the title, but I'm not current on it. There's quite a few ****holes in Edinburgh, but its rarely written about in england.
I'm literally gobsmacked Bransholme, Hull isn't on that list, I would do anything to live anywhere else, the only thing I like about my ****ing ****hole of a City is the football team
My one experience of Glasgow was when I went up to the Scottish Cup Final with Celtic and Hibs. We were sat in a hotel bar on Ingram Street at about 4am just having a nice quiet pint, when some club closed. After the hoards had gone there were these two guys walking on opposite sides of the street. One of them walked across the road, took his belt off and started to whack this belt - using the biggest buckle I've ever seen - around this poor guys head. There was claret everywhere. I realise that those things go on everywhere countrywide, but that vision will stay with me for many years.
Read the tense, Marko. It was in the early 90s. A policeman was murdered there (think he might have been the second in a short while), and the police withdrew from the area. I worked in Chapel Allerton and we were warned by our work not to drive through it.
Sorry Simon, I'm not current these days. May well be the case. But it's no surprise that Trainspotting was set in Edinburgh. Perhaps it was just a period they went through, perhaps it's the same anywhere. I know from my travels to Cumbernauld that it's heading downhill fast (in the old part).
I've seen worse, Carra. I remember walking through the massive concourse at Glasgow Central Station after a Rangers v Celtic match a number of years ago. I kid you not, there must have been at least 50 independent fights going on with varying numbers of people involved. As this was about 7 hours after the match finished, they were all well oiled & barely capable of standing, far less fighting, so no real harm done. It was perhaps the most surreal experience of my life.
Not for one second did I think what I and my friends saw that night was the worst kind of violence. However, the fact that it seemed to happen totally out of the blue and because this guy got such a serious beating, it has etched it on my mind.
Edinburgh's pretty much as it's stereotyped ("England with tartan gift shops" as I think Kevin Bridges described it). Glasgow's great in the city centre, it's getting out of town things can get rough pretty quickly.
