Totally pissed off that the chavs won last night but where the victory is achieved by winning a penalty shoot out,for me the thrill of the victory is somewhat lessened and yes I do mean all victories achieved by that method. Much rather see matches played until a winner is scored. However,my real gripe is with managers, footballers and the media using the word 'courage' to describe footballers and team performances. It really sickens me to think people like drogba ,terry etc are classed as having courage. On the bbc website Steve Bruce in his analysis says Chelsea showed 'tremendous courage' ffs there are thousands of people in this world for whatever reason showing real courage in adversity but footballers?...it really winds me up when so many of them are cheating overpaid scumbags ( all Liverpool players excepted of course ) Sorry about the rant just something I hate to hear
In the light of what happens daily in Afghanistan, the use of the word courage is probably wrong for any of these big time charlies.....sorry, Liverpool players included!!! That said, we have to take the commentary in a sporting context so really doesn't bother me at all
Fair play to them for winning it - but the defensive fashion they won it in, isn't for me, and certainly doesn't show the true excellence of the PL. Quite an embarrassing way to get the trophy to be honest. But congratulations Chelsea I guess if you're the weaker side then sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The best thing about them winning it is those mouthy egotistical Spuds have been demoted to the Europa league
It's a state of mind. No team from the top end of the Prem should consider themselves serious underdogs. The difference isn't that great, it's not like a league 1 team playing against a Prem team. Chelsea were just as likely to beat Bayern by taking the game to them imo.
Likely to score I doubt beat em, in the end they couldnt keep them out with 10 behind the ball so in essence if they opened up they'd have shifted 3 or 4, even with backs against the wall they should have shifted 4 goals including a pen, so in the end it didnt work, luck saved em totally and completely in all 3 games since the semis
It extends to the tears for celebs who die. I also include the hype over Muamba in that. It was sad but an OTT reaction. Non-celebs collapse every day. Where's their hype? Where's their tributes? Call me heartless but I doubt anybody except Muamba's nearest and dearest would've let him into their lifeboat on a sinking ship. Ditto Whitney Houston. Jeez, Jimmy Iovine struggled to say more about Donna Summer than, "Everybody in dance music owes her" because what else can you say? She sang disco, FFS. I liked her but I like my plumber when he fixes my heating and that warms my heart more than a 3-minute song.
I tend to agree but I think the coach, John Terry, is defensively minded, Di Matteo would have had no idea how to approach this game, a game of this level. So all that was left open to Chelsea coaching is pack the area two banks of 4, 10 men defending 8 yards of pitch in front of them, and lets hope Drogba n co can steal a goal. Not vailid tactics for a 200m squad no fking way. Subbuteo Team. Thing is, it did not work even remotely, in the 3 games Barca and bayern, Chelsea gave up about 20 good chances over 3 games and only for fortune, they'd have been sunk at the Bridge in the first game of the semi. That jammy luck help out right to the penalty that hit the post in the shootout. Chelsea opted out of playing football from minute 1. That was down to the limitations and knowledge of the coaching staff on tactical matters at this level and also lack of knowledge of the opponents.
I have to agree with you on the celebrity nonsense. I've read tributes to Donna Summer saying how she changed disco and ushered in a new era of music with her ground-breaking single. I've nothing against her, but she was a decent singer, that's all. If "I Feel Love" changed the face of disco, then that was all down to the production of Giorgio Moroder- any half decent singer could have fronted it. Courage is an entirely inappropriate word for footballers who manage to win a game, and devalues the achievements of others who display the real thing.
ermmm....carling cup final anyone !? In all seriousness well done chelsea...havent got a bad word to say about the win, a wins a win as far as im concerened penalties or not !...lets not forget we have won a few finals in this manner.
Not sure the term courage should be attached to those in Afghanistan or Iraq anymore than a football team to be honest. Fighting to keep the rich at the top and strip the assets from the poor nations is anything BUT courageous! Of course to call a football team who play completely negative football and hope the other team does not take their chances is equally ridiculous
Chelsea winning it did **** a lot of clubs about when it comes to European qualification: - Obviously, Chelsea are now in the CL - Man City are in CL - Man Utd are in CL - Arsenal now have to play in the third qualifying round of CL to get in. - Tottenham are in the Europa League group stage. - Liverpool relinquish their League Cup spot as they were runners-up in FA Cup and are in Europa League group stages. (If a team as a better qualification position, the qualification spot only goes to the runner-up in FA Cup. League Cup spot goes to the next non-european qualified placed team in the league) - Newcastle face two qualifying rounds for Europa League. So, although Newcastle and Tottenham did much better than us in the league, we have a trophy and are in the same (or better in Newcastles view) position, bonus...
Is the OP really making a statement about winning a trophy by a penalty shootout when your last 3 trophies have been won this way? And as for boring negative displays, how about your game v city in the C.C? You do what it takes to win. Stop being bitter.
Fighting to keep the rich at the top and strip the assets from the poor nations is anything BUT courageous! ****shaft. If you're talking about a COUNTRY'S decision to do that, fair enough. If you're talking about an 18 yr old facing IED's, children forced to wear explosive vests by their parents and 'brave' Afghan Talibans off their face on opiates and speed you're a m0ng's left jug.
You won that's all that matters as a fan and congrats on that, we just like to give teams a bit of a head start and then win. Last FA Cup final went a bit wrong though.
I wasn't happy with the way we played the second half of that game and said so at the time. I just don't think football should be played the win-at-any-cost way. You're entitled to think differently- but I, for one, am not being hypocritical.
