Its a wierd old situation for me. Im a massive Liverpool fan, so my loyalties should lie with Price, but ive watched Tysons Career develop and as a young fighter I want him to do well. I want them both to do well But i think fury needs to take a leaf out of Prices boo and become a 'serious' fighter. Fury says he is in the Gym training like a trojan and I really hope he is. He needs to concentrate on fighting on the outside for long periods of the fight until his power develops with age. He does not have the power of Price at the moment, but I believe this is due to his age and as he approaches his late twenties this power will come. For now, he has to work on becoming the outstanding outside boxer. He has the height and he has the worlds longest reach. Now he just needs the mentality and the temprament. Tyson can afford to slow things down and certainly not aim to fight a klitschko in the next 18 months. Let Price overtake him. Let Chisora and Price take on the Ks as they are already at that age where they need to be doing that. Tyson needs to slow down to maximise his potential. He is only 23 and has time on his side, why rush things and get into fights wityh more experienced, skillful powerful fighters. He needs to take his time to build his experience, skills and power and if he does this, one day he could be as successful as a klitscko. And if he does this, it gives him and Price the chance to become very successful in their own rights and then maybe in five years time we could have a massive uk super fight with Price and Fury as equals. Think Price would win it now (not a foregone conclusion.) But in five years it really would be 5050. Or if Fury does things right, even Fury as the favorite.
Shameless bump of this thread! I really think Price should press for this fight now - he needs to move up another level after smashing Sexton into the middle of next week, Tyson Fury is the next level up...European class fighter. Let's get it on!!!
The size of the purse makes little odds to me personally, I don't care how much money they make out of it - let's see Price push on now... he's looked really good and approaching his peak years, he's 28 or 29 now and really should be looking to challenge for the World belts within the next 2 years. Tyson Fury can take his time more as he's only 23/24 I think... even when Fury get's smashed, he will have time to come again
Watched Prices is fight Saturday night and again it was his power that shone through......It does seem to be cancelling out the skills of whoever he is facing. he is certainly not as unbeatable or finished as some pundits would have you believe...... I have said before that his chin is questionable....But he has an awesome defensive weapong and that is that if you come in to test his chin, you get 3 or 4 hostile jabs and then the monster right. I believe that the way to beat pricey is to fight him on the counter and to have good lateral movement.....you know what you are getting with price......jab jab jab.....right......jab jab jab ....right (if you make it that far.) Some one with effective countering and good lateral movement should be able to avoid the jabs and then move to the right and come in with eithert punches to the side body or arms......this has to be done in te first half of the fight to slow him down and then his punches wont have so much pizzazz. In many ways i would compare the way to beat him to the way Haye beat valuev. Move, move, move.... Saying all that, i would love to see price up against Chisora, who is a head on fighter, but has real punch resistance......Could Chisora get through prices Jab and land? Would Price be able to floor Chisora.........Would be very interesting..... Secret to beating price........keep out of his range and make him come for you, as soon as he throws the left jab, mpove to your right away from the jab (and even further from his monster right) and hit the body........price has been in with no one who hasnt just come straight forward or showed minimal lateral movement, when he does go in with someone like this we will see exactly how good he is.........if he wants to test the water with this kind of fighter, bring on Zack Page, (has the movement, but not the power to damage Price if he can easily escape him.)
Tyson Fury would be very stupid to get into the ring with Price at the moment imo. The fight will prob happen somewhere along the line but I don't think it will happen for another while.
I hope you are right. i like both guys and dont want to see either have their career tarnished by an unecessary loss....Fury is getting better every fight, and as he ages, he will develop more and more power. A fight 3 or 4 years down the line would be perfect. Fury at 26/27 and Price at 32/33, both will be in their prime and should be a real tear up.......I think Fury should avoid him for now and with Fury due to develoip further and gain more power with age, its is understandable why Price wants to fight him now...lol Price beat Fury in the amateurs, but he wont have forgotten getting floored by a 17 year old Fury in that fight.......i imagine underneath all of the hostility, there is a grudging respect between both fighters...fury respecting Price for his obvious current potential, and Price respecting Furys age and what he could develop into.
Yeah I would agree with all of that. Fury has come on a lot since he first came on the scene and will only get better. Price for me is further along the line than Fury at the moment and would win easily if they fought now imo but if they wait until Fury has developed more it could be a great fight.
I reckon that wouldn't be the promoters choice, but in terms of development it would be a great move. A durable journeyman gatekeeper. He fought Perez twice and never won a round......but he was there for the distance. He beat Tom Dallas but got robbed of the decision (when Dallas was undefeated). If Price could get rid of him, it would send out quite a message to the industry...if not to the fans.
