If we did lose RVP, then Torres could play as the lone CF with Walcott and Podolski either side of him.
This. Start playing him the way he's meant to be played, unlike the way Chelsea made him play to begin with, which destroyed his confidence and put him in the place he is now
Chelsea have played him in a 4-3-3 for 15 months, he's been (as they say in russia) utterpantski in that time. If we swapped to a 4-2-1-2-1, then maybe it could work, but we'd have to drop Theo and Poldi deeper.
I think this is reasonable personally. RVP plus £12m for Torres I would take. It would ever so slightly make up for you how much we ripped you off on the Ashley Cole deal
Torres can play in more than one system - (in fact he started his career in Athletico playing a more withdrawn forward role). He's played well in a 4-5-1 for Liverpool and a 4-4-1-1. Im sure he could adjust to a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. I dont think the formation was the issue at Chelsea so much as the 'style of play'. Also you do realise we've only played THIS current system for two Seasons? Wenger is to adversed to changing it. Personally I would play him down the middle with Podolski just behind him.(if we lost rvp)
in your ****ing dreams. RVP's market value according to http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk is £39.5m - you'd have to give us two Torres' to match that.
wouldn't work in our system. torres is great at getting in behind defences with his pace and scoring from 1 on 1s. at chelsea, they play more of a wide game with lots of crosses, hence why drogba is so deadly. torres doesn't have his build or height and thus suffers. the way we play is that we often end up surrounding the oppositions box with them sitting VERY deep with no space in behind. van persie has the skill and ability to drop deep and get the ball. torres wouldn't want to do that. he'd just stand next to the defenders and barely ever get the ball. thats why walcott is often anonymous, because he needs space to run into the flourish. would be deadly on the counter attack though. walcott, pod, rvp and torres running full pelt at a defence!
We've played a 4-3-3 for ages, the only change being we're playing with 2 deeper midfielders now, rather than just Song.
If Citeh pay us 40 million, RvP can go. How can a 28 year old, with only 1 year left on his contract, be worth 40 million?
As much as I want him to stay, we'd be crazy to turn down £40m for striker approaching 30 years old. As long as we spent some of the ****ing money on a replacement !!!
Only this but our track record has been poor regarding getting equivilent replacements. That's why i'm all for keeping RVP.
Mate, its a 4-2-1-3 it's a different formation. We played a 4-3-3 in 2009. Torres has played well in a 4-3-3 for Spain. Its not all about the formation its more about his confidence.
I actually agree. I think we should keep him for his final year if he doesn't sign. What't the point of having the money if we don't spend it on at least as good a replacement ?
If his confidence is shot whilst playing alonside Juan Mata, imagine how bad it will be when he has to play alongside he who must not be named *cough* Ramsey *cough* (shudder).
