In my mind I do not think that ML would have liked the stadium named after him. He is not the same kind of person say as Madaski or similar. He was a very quiet person. Perhaps a stand but not more. To be honest I would like something along the lines of the "St Mary's Dell " or maybe the "New Dell". Lets face it the old name's is an important part of our History.

The New Dell would be perfect for me. Especially if the council changed the street name to St Mary's Road or Street.

As the sig says - St.Mary's Born and Bred
I would really really like to keep the name St.Mary's

OK how about The St Mary's Dell......We can all have the bit we like.......both names synonymous with Saints and it's history?

They couldn't change it to St Mary's street as there is already one with the original St Mary's church in it I think. Not sure about St Mary's road. The area around is almost St Mary's to a point. Not sure where the St Mary's boundary is to be honest. Probably the chapel crossing area, or near I would have thought.

St Mary's is fine.

The club wouldn't get that much cash now by selling the naming rights. Companies are only interested in getting their name in there for new stadiums from the off. Otherwise, people (and most importantly, the media) just carry on calling the grounds their old/traditional name. It's why Brighton were able to get a good wedge for letting American Express call it the Amex Stadium.

Really, Friends Provident shot themselves in the foot by caving in quite easily to having St Mary's tagged on. Although in retrospect, I have a feeling they paid us next to nothing for that sponsorship, it was more a favour by Lowe to chums in return for them mortgaging the ground on favourable terms.

There's a lot of truth in what you say CBK.....Lowe was struggling to get the money to build the stadium. Mainly because once the business side of it went out of the window (Swaythling and the like with its shopping complex) he struggled because he was relying on the Saints only income. In the end their fears were well founded. Still we have survived just and are now moving in the right direction.

St Mary's is fine. It makes sense with it's location and it has history, there's no need to change it. <ok>

The corporate stadium names all sound awful: Weston Homes Community Stadium, Keepmoat Stadium, Amex Stadium, Emirates Stadium, Reebok Stadium, JJB Stadium (before it was changed to DW Stadium), Kit Kat Crescent..I could go on..

I agree that it's much better to not have the branded stadium, unless a really wealthy businessman has stumped up the money for it's construction, then fair go!

I like St. Marys Stadium. There is no need to add the Dell in there, that was a stadium elsewhere, not in St Marys.

St Mary's is fine. It isn't the new Dell and, much as I have fond memories of the Dell, having been there more times than SMS, I wouldn't want it back.

I can sit throughout at SMS. I am getting on and arthritic so don't want to stand, although I fully support the wishes of those who choose to, just not in front of me.

Corporate names are horrid. Ask a gooner, Highbury or Emirates (the name not the stadium).
