Here we go .... Sousa was focused and competitively intense, tactically savvy, very accomplished as a player and more certified as a coach than Martinez will every be (has Brown shoes actually managed to get his full UEFA license yet). At the start of that season, I remember seeing him in the Morgans Hotel in the morning where he was living, eating breakfast already in his training gear and ready to go. He squeezed blood out of a stone for us that season. I have no knowledge of his relationship with the Board, nor of any player politics that might have been in force, but if what others say is true then his achievements are even more remarkable.

Yankee - the guy was a bit of a cock IMO - have attached a cartoon I did for the fanzine at the time - he promised much and, as I have said earlier he was an important part of our recent history, but in his mind he was the most important thing that ever happened to our club!

Didn't Britton come out and say that the only reason he left was because of Sousa?
And didnt a number of players come out and say that the training under him was cack (if you remember, our players always looked as if they were about to keel over and die in the last 10 mins).
However, I'll always be grateful for the way he got us defending and I firmly believe that we w

That season was when I realised that the old adage, "It's not how you play, it's the results that matter," did not apply to me. Winning football matches by boring opposing teams into submission was not worth my admission money. I still attended every home game that season, but genuinely considered doing other things on Saturday afternoons; the only time that that has happened during my time as a supporter.

With regards to HJ not supporting him in the transfer market, upon taking the job, Sousa definitely knew exactly how much money he had to spend on players for that season. So his complaint when he left, that he was not supported in the market like he expected, means that either he's full of sh*t, or HJ decided to withhold funds. If it's the latter, how can you even doubt that HJ had perfectly legitimate reasons to do so? I would have offered to carry him to the Foxes on my back, I was so pleased to see him go!

It was a boring season that is for sure, but look on the bright side here, he has gone and do you think we would have had 14 clean sheets this season without his input ?

    My opinion of Sousa....

    - I don't think he steadied the ship as i think any new manager would have done the same
    - I do concede that he and helped us learn defence
    - Let Dobbie go on load to Blackpool which was a mistake (I know he's there now, but in the championship, he proved himself way to valuable)
    - Benched Trunds when his scoring ratio was so much better than pintado - how many did pintado do all season 3 wasn't it.. pfff
    - He Cheesed the team off so much, Leon left - lucky for us that he came back.
    - We did finish well for the season - so have to respect that.. However, he did inherit a great team.

Glad he went when he did - hell yes.....

I still kinda liked the fella though, especially respect him for his footballing achievements... Wish him well for his future...

if it was not for sousa we would have been in danger of going down, he made us a very hard team to beat as he knew we were struggling with goals. he took the job with the understanding that he would be backed and at the end of the day the club let him down and not the other way around. he was a no nonsense manager that put some discipline back into the club, he stopped the drinking and gambling schools and some players had their noses put out of joint, he smartened the team up to act as professionals when at work and outside of work. he fined anyone who strayed from his ideals and that included monk and britton.......if only the club had backed him like they were suppose to then we could have easily gone up two seasons ago......he done exceptionally well in everything at the club, it dont come as any surprise that he has done well and it was another good manager lost to bad decisions at the time.....you dont mess with someone like sousa, he will never be a yes man and he would expect the club to be straight with him right down to some backing when he said we need players for the final push or we will possibly blow our chances,,,,was he right or was he right......top man badly let down......

He lost the dressing room, there is no way we would have got anywhere with him at the helm. And unless you were privy to the discussion on him coming to us, you are just guessing! The relationship broke down before the new year and there is no way the board of directors would fund a manager who cannot manage the players. Remember he sent dobbie out and Leon left.

Thats an old cliche valley that is total rubbish. he was strict but fair and as he was the manager then the players has to except his way of running things. all this rubbish he lost the dressing room is hillarius. the players did as they were told they did not have to like sousa (and the majority did) they would not have got so close to automatic if he had lost the dressing room <laugh>
