So the point is that qualifying for the champions league is a success. Not on the same level as winning it, but a success nonetheless Would you say that winning the Carling Cup would be more desirable than finishing in the Top 4 ?
Sorry Piskie - but I have already handed your head to you on a plate in this argument To help you further staying in the premiership is a success for some clubs. If you want to go down the route of comparative success, because it seems this is your criteria now for judging our season, then unless we finish bottom of the league with no points and no goals there will always be something that could be worse and called comparitive success. I told you at the start, as soon as you posed that first question, that your line of thinking was stupid. I think its pretty obvious even to you why I said that now.
No, it isn't an overall success, I think I made that clear. With the resources we have available, to only be able to tout Champions League qualification as a success is in fact a major failure, Wenger himself has stated on many occasions, that any season we fail to win a trophy is a BAD CAMPAIGN, did you forget that? Or maybe now you're going to twist that too and come up with some other excuse? We should be winning the League, the FA Cup, and should have won the Champions League by now, but we have won nothing, only we have done is scrap for top 4, and then you come trying to make everyone think that's something so good to be happy about while in comparison our rivals are consistently winning silverware with us just having to watch on the sidelines.
Time to wake up, whingers. In a year where we lost two of our best players after the season started and cobbled together a new team last minute, we finished top of the rest (everyone excluding Man City and United). That's good no matter what flavour of whine you accompany it with.
That line is getting old now, we have heard it a million times, in fact the argument backfires on you. Why did we lose our best players? Why did we have to cobble players in the last minute? LOL are you trying to argue against us or make our points for us? That's not good no matter anything, we basically shot ourselves in the foot and put ourselves in a massive struggle. Why did we wait so long to sell two players who wanted to leave, and why were the replacements never lined up before it became too late? Or why didn't we just tell them they can't leave? As Wenger said, you can't convince you are a top club when you let your best players go, so who's winging now? You blinker brigade are full of ****.
This is true, it is good. Dont forget though that the summer was a part of the whole issue - we were terrible at the start of the season because of it. Its also true to say we did really well coming back from such a poor start. I wouldnt dispute that. I do not go as far as to categorise our season as a whole as a success though.
Don't be stupid For a club like Arsenal - the definition of success is not a comparison between finishing bottom, with no points or qualifying for the Champions League. There is a massive gulf between the two. Obvious to most, not to you it seems
"But we shouldn't have ever been in that position because waaah! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" Suck it up, we were in that position, no point crying over it like a pussy. Result after being in that bog-awful position? 3rd place with a transitional team. Good stuff. You want to whinge over and over about "we shouldn't have blahblah waa" ... go ahead to someone who cares about people who constantly bitch to the end of time about the fact that mistakes were made. Big f*ckin' whoops. We recovered. I'll be over here with the group looking at the future instead of whinging about the past.
Why don't you go **** yourself you annoying **** head? Labelling an actual proper critique of the team as 'whinging and crying like a pussy'. You can keep saying your looking to the future, we have been saying that for years, and nothing's happened yet, so your claims are hollow, and all you've done is shown what a ****ing ****** you are as you can't deal with actual critiques of the team. And you call it a transitional team? Haven't you idiots been saying that for 8 years? As I said, your full of **** who can't properly argue precisely because your full of ****. You want to hide all the negativity happening at this club and label it as 'whinging', well you can go **** yourself.
Haha, this is quite true. We had a great recovery from the awful summer we had last season and to be honest I think we've learnt from it and will get business done earlier this time around (signing Podolski, asking RVP early on whether he wants to stay or not). All we need is to bring in a few more players over summer to strengthen the squad and I see us challenging for trophies as well as finishing in the top 4 again next season.
Really? So last season was just a one off, I guess you forgot about the 6 other ones then, right? What happened in all those other seasons where we failed to win anything, and were scrapping for top 4 spots? Maybe you can also explain our complete collapse in the 2011 season with relegation form, or the collapse in the previous season, yes, yes, that's all a myth, it was ONLY LAST SEASON where we ****ed up and will learn from. Yes, yes, whatever you say.
Now that would be a success with one slight modification. Bring in new players early - yes top 4 - yes challenging for trophies - no, winning a trophy
Well the actions so far this transfer window suggest we're learning from it, yes and last season's was calamitous, we've never had a summer like it despite having big players leave before. Consistently finishing in the top four year in, year out shows we're doing something right. We just need to bring in a few more faces and try and instil some confidence down the stretch in competitions to stop us bottling it.
A87 - calm down! I think there are a lot of views here - but i believe it comes down to the fact that many feel a huge sense of relief this year that we managed to get CL football, and we JUST did it. It's this relief that is clouding the wider picture of the whole season, where we have been poor. We didnt actually play well even in quite a few of our wins, but we scraped through. I think when taking an objective view of our whole season - very few would look at it and say ' yeah that was a successful season'. I doubt even Wenger would.
I can't guarantee trophies, no one can. I feel we'd have the ability to win them if we strengthened over this summer though for sure.
This is so funny, if I had a penny for everytime one of you guys repeated that same bull **** line, I'd be a millionaire. Can you explain to me, because you didn't answer my Q, why hasn't this happened for 7 years now? Why do we repeat the same line over and over, and nothing changes for the better? Why did we collapse in 10, 11? Why did we have a sh!tter in 09? Can you explain all these failures please? You're saying one thing, yet I see another, I see constant failure at winning things, constant failure of showing composure and bottle, so why should anyone believe anything's going to change now when all we have seen is the same rubbish for the past 7 years?
Hard to take the "I'm just properly critiqueing the team" argument seriously from someone who's idea of formulating a reasonable point involves typing as many swearwords as possible in every sentence. Your post can be summed up as "I've lost faith that the future will be good, so I'm just going to constantly whine about the past instead". Good luck with that, buddy.
He started it, saying I'm whinging like a pussy, when I was actually giving constructive critique, and that massively pisses me off when someone doesn't respond to the arguments, but instead labels you as a crying pussy. How's that whinging like a pussy when I'm stating open facts, that we severely hurt ourselves with the way we did things in the summer, things our own manager said were not the signs of a top team.
