The Premier League is an English professional league for association football clubs. At the top of the English football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with The Football League. The Premier League is a corporation in which the 20 member clubs act as shareholders. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 38 matches each, totalling 380 matches in the season. Most games are played on Saturdays and Sundays, with a few games played during weekday evenings. It was known as the Premiership from 1993 to 2007. It is currently sponsored by Barclays Bank and therefore officially known as the Barclays Premier League. The competition formed as the FA Premier League on 20 February 1992 following the decision of clubs in the Football League First Division to break away from The Football League, which was originally founded in 1888, and take advantage of a lucrative television rights deal.[1] This was worth £2 billion in 2008â09.[2] The Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world, broadcast in 212 territories to an audience of 643 million viewers.[3] In the 2010â11 season the average Premier League match attendance was 35,363, the second highest of any professional football league behind the German Bundesliga,[4] and stadium occupancy was 92.2% full.[5] The Premier League ranked first in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) coefficients of leagues based on performances in European competitions over the last five years, ahead of the Spanish La Liga and German Bundesliga.[6] Since 1888, a total of 23 clubs have been crowned champions of the English football system. Of the 45 clubs to have competed since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, five have won the title: Manchester United (12 titles), Arsenal (3), Chelsea (3), Blackburn Rovers (1) and Manchester City (1). The current champions are Manchester City, who won the title in the 2011â12 season.
Yes and wiki is the opinion of the author who wrote it, I despair of the educational system if you believe half the crap that is posted up there, it's just a glorified forum where people can express their thoughts
Really ? all I can see is that it's written in English and that is it. But as you simply believe everything on wiki it's you who's the mug.
Yeah, right! Reading?? With mummy all tucked up sleeping with her lambs? You tell a good story, Valleyswine.
Its English so just get over it and go back to your welsh leagues with the welsh fa. Unless you believe your own bullshit.
Go back ? That would suggest we played there previously, tell you what go and have a look at wiki as you Leeds fans seem to rely on it quite a lot instead of school. And we are in the FA now as a club and not the FAW
Germanic, pfffttt better than being welsh, being French would be better than being welsh, and having a welsh team in the English Premier League, the only decent place in wales is Mancot, and thats because speedo came from there.
I'd like to point out, strach, that it's not the 'English Premier League'. It's the Premier League - no nationality specified - and the first page of the constitution says it accepts English and Welsh clubs. EPL is a bogus acronym used by Indians and Scots. Unfortunately.
But the celts are the true brits, didn't you know that ? And Jerel has the right idea, it may grate on you, but the Premier League is not English or Welsh
Didn't you know that there is no genetic difference between Englishmen, Irishman, Welshmen and Scots? All this "celtic" crap is bullshit propaganda made up by "celtic" nationalists.
It's also starting to sound a little bit Carleton S. Coon for my liking. This idiot decreeing who "true [not 'original', 'true'] brits" are? Straight out of the Hitler Handbook. Back in my mod days, I'd have had him banned for racism.
