In todays Sunday Sun, the legend are being interviewed about Sunderlands, Newcastle and Middlesbroughs season. Neil Cameron is doing the interview and one of his questions was: Did you enjoy the Pardew - O'Neill spat at St James' Park? Micky Horswill: "I thought it was diabolical, I know the story behind it as well. It went on afterwards. Pardew was waiting for O'Neill in the tunnel and slaughtered him. So much so that O'Neill went and sat on the bus. He didn't go and join his team. It was a disgrace. These two are men doing the same job. You have got to respect the other guy and Pardew didn't respect O'Neill that day." Bernie Slaven: "Pardew did let himself down. O'Neill is experienced and successful. He got Celtic to a European final and won the European cup with Nottingham Forest. The heat does get to you at times, although Pardew was disrepctful then." Malcolm Macdonald did not answer the question. Neil Cameron then asked: Was Pardew not just defending his team? Malcolm Macdonald: "Of course he was. The players look to him to do his bit - and so he did." Bernie Slaven: "Would he have done it against Fergie? Not a chance. I think he picks and chooses who he's up against." Micky Horswill did not answer that question.
Pardew is a ****e rr, had a great year this season but an arrogant and very unlikeable little man, I met him in Winchester when he was Southampton manager, asked very politely but he wouldn't have a photo with us, he's just not a very nice person to be honest
I will go along with that and it certainly sounds more realistic than Micky Horswill's version of events.
So the opinion of a Boro and Sunderland supporter are "the truth about Pardew" Howay man don't let yourself down. They're grown men and they had a spat during a derby, and O'Neill bottled it. I'm not gonna grief him for it but you lot need to stop coming up with excuses and just accept it.
What should he have done? Started throwing right hooks instead of having dignity and not lowering himself to the levels Pardew did?
He hid behind the fourth official instead of facing Pardew (unless you won't to argue with the photos). Now I'm not saying he wasn't the bigger man or he should have done any different, but it was an intense moment and IMO neither manager did anything wrong. For a lot of Sunderland fans, though, it seems like a personal crusade to come up with a theory of how in the wrong Pardew was and how amazingly dignified O'Neill acted.
Very brave that to be the big man against a 61 year old little bloke. If mags think this is their man just showing passion then add debased scum to the title deluded when talking about them in future. Pardew has had a remarkable season but he cant help being a complete cockney ****er can he? I cant wait for his inevitable fall from grace over the coming 12 months, as I'm afraid for the barcodes he has neither the pedigree, or the class to make this anything more than a one season wonder. Our man on the other hand has all the credentials required to guide us in a professional and classy manner in the future and I know which one I am eternally grateful to have on board.
Pardew is over 50, not exactly a young guy? However I suppose you're right, calling a press conference the day after a game just to specifically say how much better your team were and how dirty the opponents were just oozes class. Imagine what you would have said if Pardew had done that?
He called a press conference to refute the absolute bull **** scurrilous comments from your cockney barrow boy, which were made straight after the match and quoted in the newspapers. Like I said, any barcode that thinks Pardew's actions according to the Sunday Suns interview were okay, are just scum as well imo.
Pardew's super injunction runs out soon, see you defend him then.... For the record, I had no problem with the derby day spat.
Sunderlands Sherlock knew that this would play out in the media so he didn't rise to the Cockney Eel, he kept his composure, bided his time and span the situation via the media taking out all the Eelmans stumps (as it is the cricket season). You know wor Sherlock is gagging for the return match and he isn't going to be rooting through his 45 collection for a suitable tune. He is going to stick his hand in the Eelmans head and turn all his priorities around, the Skin Sack of Bell Smegma will be played like a fiddle by a man of far superior intellect and refinement. Eelman prepare yourself for a reet good mental larruping!
But O'Neill accused Pardew of cheating, going to the refs office, this unfounded accusation led to his captain being sent off, and was eventually shown to be untrue. You can understand why Pardew was annoyed. Neither acted brilliantly but it's nothing worth dragging back up months later, these things happen, and are often worse, it was a derby and both mangers histrionics added to the entertainment of the occasion .
Same with me. When you read it come to the point where O'Neill didn't feel comfortable staying in the ground and with our team, then that changes things for me and shows just how much of a tosser that Pardew can be that a fellow manager feels he needs to go and sit on the bus after the game.
