QPR hope to start their summer rebuilding process by signing West Ham and England goalkeeper Robert Green. The former Norwich player, 32, is out of contract in July and looks likely to leave Upton Park regardless of the result of their Championship play-off final against Blackpool on Saturday. According to the Daily Mirror, Green will be offered £50,000 per week to join the Loftus Road club as they look to kick on following their last-day escape from relegation. Manager Mark Hughes plans a major overhaul of his squad this summer with last season's No 1 Paddy Kenny set to rejoin former manager Neil Warnock at Leeds.
Paddy seemed surprised when he read about it yesterday and posted on twitter - Very interesting read this morning http://twitter.com/p20ddy/status/203799290777305088/photo/1
Why would Green leave PL West Ham? I presume hes not gonna be on 50k with them? I suppose we do seem to be in much safer hands than they are. What with the Muppets running their Club.
One of his followers posted "You're twice the keeper Green is". Was he taking the piss? Paddy's just carrying water that's all. On a serious note, Green (along with Parker) was their stand out performer on their relegation season. Good keeper although perhaps not great. Still don't think any of these keepers are much better than Kenny who, despite what Flyer says, is a decent player.
I still think Paddy is a very good keeper and no way is Green better than him. Paddy may make the odd mistake but who doesnt particularly the amount of practise he gets particularly at our away matches. I would still have Kenny as my No 1 next season.
Kenny is the worst keeper in the division, even half the backups are better than him. About a 3rd of the goals he lets in are savable, just look at the 1st and 2nd against City. Id take Green over him even though I dont think Green is that good.
Flyer easy to pick on a few mistakes and a few games where hes not quite at his best but wheres the balance and mention of some of the brilliant saves hes made over the last couple of seasons. Wasnt he one of our players of the season last year before we came up (think he saved at least 15pts last year with his heroics someone once mentioned) and i still remember some world class saves hes made this season, one in particular at Carrow Road where he pushed a looping goalbound header over the bar from Morrison and no one in the Norwich end could believe he saved it and also a great save he made near the end to deny Blackburn all 3pts at LR. I can think of many many more this season.
Its not just the mistakes, he has lead in his boots and wed have been mid table with a decent goalie. He was letting in loads of savable shots just by being so slow.
i could not agree more. for people who disagree i just dont get it, who is worse than kenny in the PL?
Its not just the saves , His distribution is slow , his kicking is woeful and inability to take crosses put severe pressure on the back four. Proven with Cities second , header from 4 yards from a corner bang central. That is keepers ball in any division. He had been like that all season
I disagree with this entirely, he was fantastic for us 2 seasons ago and no one can disagree with that but that was the Championship and we are aiming now to move forward as a club and i think its time to move on. He has made some good saves this season, his save against RVP at Loftus Road and he did well against Spurs at home as well and spurs away. But he has made a load of errors this year that go unseen and not criticised such as not coming for the cross Dzeko scored from or the cros Terry scored from at the bridge, as well as not saving Chelsea's opener. He should have pushed Dorrans long range effort around the post at West Brom and had a mare against Blackburn away. He hardly ever commands his box and always punches instead of claiming, he has poor distrubution and i dont know for the life of me how Cerny never got a look in after his string of performances in December. He has had some decent games this season, but bad moments have outweighed the good ones. P.s Radek cerny played against Norwich at Carrow Road this season, so i dont know where you are getting that from or if you mixed syour facts up.
Based on his performances in the Championship I thought Paddy was going to do a good job for us in the Premiership. The first half of the season was a mystery as he seemed to be rooted to the spot and very slow. Niggling injury? He certainly improved in the latter stages of the season. I believe however that Hughes has earmarked a replacement.
Latest rumours that ive found on the web is that Hughes is looking at Par Hansson who plays For Helsingborg in Sweden, 25 years of age and certainly looks like a Hughes signing, young, cheap and European. Found this on the web of Hansson, Looks a decent keeper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP5cH3p-UQk
You can look at their 1st too when he is down on 1 knee before the player shoots. That is not what keepers are taught, who on earth thinks its a good idea to make yourself as small as possible? Stand up, put your arms out wide and make it look like its impossible to get it past you. Not cower like an 8 year old girl. He was good last season but thats because we were the better team and there were less shots coming in, his failings have shown up massively in the PL.
Before the season started there was a thread asking is there any Keeper better in the PL. Off the wall true, but it is still some turnaround. Put it this way, W9. Hes no worse than Craig Gordon who's being touted on here as some sort of World beater. Gordon is a very poor goalkeeper.
