QPRQPR set to freeze season ticket prices 20/05/2012 by David McIntyre QPR are to freeze season ticket prices for the 2012-13 campaign. The news is expected to be confirmed in the coming days, along with details of a pre-season visit to South East Asia. Massive increases in prices, introduced a year ago by the Flavio Briatore-led regime, caused uproar among Râs fans.
I find it hard to understand this. Amit Bhatia resigned over the 40% increases last year but apparently 35% is acceptable. Don't get me wrong I appreciate the sentiment and everything he's done and is doing for the club but as we all said at the time it felt a bit watered down when the "refunds" came through. I was hoping the tickets would go down slightly next year but then again I've been in my own little world so often recently others might find this freeze in ticket prices brilliant.
I think the reality is that much of the uproar coincided with the lack of money the Goons were making available to strengthen the team, that really was taking the piss. I think we can see a proper level of investment in all areas now so the price-freeze doesn't look as unreasonable as we may think. I'm not a ST holder but am still prepared to fork out good money for the several visits I make each year knowing the club is moving in the right direction. It will be interesting to see whether this will apply in the following season when we may be nearer to a new stadium being a reality...
The difference is the 40% was with no spending on good players, no training ground and no new stadium. Weve got all that at the same price. It has to be paid for somehow.
Exactly Flyer, a price freeze, albeit after a massive price hike last summer, seems a lot more reasonable now that we can see investment in our club, I expect this news will generally be met well by supporters.
It wont be by the "Id rather spend £250 and be in L1" brigade. Basically theyd rather see QPR be a failure so they can go rather than be a success meaning they cant afford it.
I'm guessing/would hope that those fans you talk of would be increasingly in the minority given the positive direction the club is heading in at the moment!
I will be happy to pay for improved facilities when that new stadium turns up. Right now there is not even a plan in place so its a bit like asking me to pay for a new house that may never get to built. The new stadium is vital to the future and the club really need to make an announcement about that before letting us know how much we will be paying for the worst facilities in the PL next season.
Planning a new stadium takes years, acquiring the land, dealing with the council, trying to sell LR to developers and remove the rule that it must be used for sports. It will only be announced when all of that has taken place otherwise theyd look fools if they announced it and then couldnt buy any land or get planning permission.
I was actually expecting a small rise, so this is welcome. The club is in a catch 22 - the prices for the facilities we have are very steep, but they have to maximize gate revenue. And even if we do, it won't be enough because of the tiny capacity. What I will resent is paying high prices in a new stadium if that stadium has huge numbers of empty seats for the 'ordinary' games. Hopefully we'll be doing so well by then that we'll be happy ( ok, less grudging) to pay for a guaranteed seat.
agree with flyer, it could take a minimum of 5 years before any new stadium plans get the go ahead. if it was out in the sticks it wouldn't be such a problem but this is london. god knows how many committees you need to go through.
I forgot about the design, looking for an architect etc Publicly announcing a stadium before youve bought the land will drive land prices through the roof as well. You only have to look at the amount of abuse Pompey got after releasing their plans for a new stadium to see how it can all go wrong.
This new stadium will probably be Mittal money. He is known for ploughing his money into cutting edge designs: please log in to view this image The thing looks like it has been made with Meccano which leads me to believe that after the Olympics it will be disassembled and then reassembled as the skeleton for a football stadium. They must have lots more pieces in the box that they can use.
This is very speculative, but it could be genuinely a Mittal stadium - he builds and owns it, we rent from gate receipts. Not a model that has worked well for Coventry, but has worked ok for the Milan clubs.
Ever been to the San Siro - huge towers with spiral walkways, massively tempting for skateboarders....
This might be a stupid question but would the price freeze mean what we paid AFTER the discount last year ? I mean a £299 and £399 ticket got a refund of £25 and a £650ish got a £50 refund (in vouchers) I was one of the complainers about the way it was handled last year BUT with the way things are this year and the investment the owner is making I've been won over.
I would assume the original price and if I was TF Id add a voucher for a free shirt as they wont sell many of them this season.
Not that it affects me, but this doesn't surprise me at all. I'd almost expect another freeze, or a very small rise, this time next year, although I can't back up that feeling with any reasoning.
