    Real Madrid win La Liga
    Man City win Prem League
    Chelsea win CL

Proof that money does buy you success!

They wouldn't have had the chance to be lucky if it wasn't for RA's millions.

Bit embarrassing how they won it.

At least in Istanbul we were playing an incredible side full of legends, and we managed a few attacks and 3 goals, with a poorer team than that Chelsea side last night.

    That's football though.

Football has been in my blood for 50 years and I can't stop loving it, but I do think it's going to hell in a handcart.
    Or more likely a Lamborghini.

at least the money made it possible to challenge the established order. imagine Man-u winning the PL year to year!
wish we could have such money so we can sign cavani, lavezzi, hulk, marcelo, neymar (yes, of santos), iniesta, etc.

Makes you wonder if Liverpool's approach to football will ever see us succeed again. It's a money game now, plain and simple. You spend big outside your means and you buy trophies. Because of the money clubs, wages are going sky high, transfer fees are rocketting and players are expecting imediate success rather than building a career which makes it much harder to attract players or to afford those who are interested given your competition.

Our owners want sustainability, and so do I as a fan, but can that ever compete in the modern game?

I was hoping for a more positive reponse than this :(

Arsenal make a profit, they don't fall even. They should have reinvested the money from sales last summer which would have saw them improve but they didn't (for whatever reason). Sustainable doesn't mean making a profit, it means not making a loss.

Real Madrid - How much did they spend for six consecutive CL 2nd round exits?

Man City - Spent big on the players they wanted to forge a team rather than just buying all the best players. Still only just pipped an eroded Utd squad. It was hardly a vintage PL season.

Chelsea - How much has RA spent to finally win the CL?

Chelsea's timing was perfect because when FFP starts being hammered home RA is likely to move on. FSG are relying on FFP being implemented and upheld.

It's going to be about who's got the best marketing dept and biggest stadium soon.

Actually, sustainable mean not making a loss over a period of time, meaning that it is perfectly acceptable to invest in the short term for long term gain.....and the gain is not the resale price of players in our case (it is for smaller less global teams but for the handful who have global reach, the prize is much bigger!).....Where were Chelsea or City on the worlds richest club list a year before their benefactors took them over?

    Agree with the OP completely.

Your comment doesn't stand up to scrutiny considering your last manager had his greatest success by spending more than anyone else at 2 different clubs & then tried to do the same at Liverpool, again. His failure was down to the other clubs ( Chelsea and City in particular ) having been able to outspend with consistency, not just in a short spurt. And also down to an incredibly poor choice in purchases. Clearly thought he was buying Wilcox, Sherwood and Shearer Mk II.

Not a Gooner, but of all top clubs, their financial operating systems seem to make the most sense, and then looking at the recent success they've had just convinces all the more that the OP is spot on. Shame

Firstly, what does Kenny's previous jobs have to do with his recent stint as Liverpool boss?

This time around, he DIDNT try to spend more than anyone else. Jesus Christ. These posters get more stupid by the day. Net spend of 30mill. Yeah. Clearly he tried to outspend everyone <doh>

No one has defended his poor purchases either so I don't know who you're arguing with on that point...

You say you agree with the OP, but that my comment doesn't stand up to scrutiny even though I agreed with the OP myself AND just proved to you that Kenny didn't try to outspend the other clubs. Try harder next time to read and comprehend first.

How come you finished below Fulham and Everton then?

Money helps a lot but there are a few more ingredients required.

I don't tend to look that far down the table to be fair!!

OK, so how come you finished below Everton then? And Newcastle? And Spurs? And Arsenal. Teams you outspent. Or doesn't that fit your argument?

not my argument ... i was just correcting ya <ok>

but the long story short in relation to your question is ... injuries, players not putting in the effort, bad tactics(occasionally),lack of goals
