Funny you should mention this.,

In todays game, Robben played as if he'd been paid IMO. During the penalty kick, he might as well had told the keeper what bit of the goal line to go for. It all looked a bit suspicious to me :police:. A very large brown envelope will be passing hands somewhere :bandit:, I suspect.
And his shambolic acting after the game deserved a medel :emoticon-0106-cryin. It was a sight to see. He could probably get a part on one of Andrew Lloyd webber's shows :emoticon-0116-evilg... with a bit more training.
I guess, it's quite difficult to act sad for the fans when one is also trying to decide what colour Farrari to take out the showroom Monday morning forthcoming. He deserves the medal for the after game acting alone.

Gomez is another one., he must be on 'whatshisnames' payroll aswell. I mean, why else would he take all those extra touches, right in front goal, when all he had to do was boot the ball in the bloody net.

Its all a bit sad really, especially for us the fans,. We've had to endure the sight of Manchester City buying the Premiership., now this !.

Have to disagree, Luke. Once again they were unremittingly negative. They had one corner in the entire game, from which they scored. Apart from that, once again, they contributed virtually nothing of a positive nature. If this is the way football is going, the stadiums will soon be deserted.

Yes, thank you for your valued contribution. Now, I'm afraid that, like your team, and it's "style" of football, you're starting to bore the arse off me!

I think there will be a lot of infighting among Spurs fans, but before we get into that, let us at least consider the role of that horrible competition. May I say that its going to get the team it deserves. Do you think neutrals around Europe would rather see the sort of football brought in our campaign a couple of seasons back, or that dross rolled out by Chelski? After Citeh's "winning" of the PL, this is (as others have said), another bad day for football. But don't expect the media to recognise this. They have invested too much (sold their soul?) in the CL to criticise it, and the teams that win it. First they'll confuse luck with skill, and praise the "performance" of Chelski. Then there's the very old British/German xenophobic thing, which is bad enough in internationals but utterly misplaced with this one, with ideas that we should be supporting the "English" team. No, we should be supporting what is good for football and what happened last night is most certainly not good for football.

Exactly. It makes you worry that others will think that these totally negative tactics are the way to success. In Chelseas's case, they have been. However, as you say, both football in general, and the football loving public of Europe are the losers.

It's been mentioned a few times by various people including myself. I'm not going to go into it at a time like this because it just makes you sound bitter, but anyone who doesn't believe in corruption in football is clearly very ignorant and naive. In fact, that applies to most sports.

The Italians have always used these tactics and have achieved a lot of success with them. Like them or not they do produce drama and often results. The Germans use similar tactics to the English with more success and the Spanish & French had to wait for rule changes before their tippy tappy was able to work.

All these different approaches to the game make football the game that it is. Overall if I had to chose one it would be the English/German variety but then I am English. The PL includes all forms which is why it is such a great contest.

I agree. Congratulations Chelsea. They did what they had to (and only what they had to win). It's a bitter pill to swallow, especially as we will probably go back to being a dangerous top 10 team again. My love for Spurs goes on and when there are better days they will be all the sweeter for days like this.

For me, only The Italians have ever been anywhere near that negative. Chavski produced virtually zero of a positive nature either against Barca or Bayern. I'm just sorry that their incredible luck produced a result for them. I would have loved to see their negativity get the hammering it deserved.

Chelski deserved to get hammered. So much luck! RDM will get a job somewhere else (I hope he gets Chelski as nothing will change and the old guard will carry on with the same tactics but just be older and less able), not be very successful and all the pundits will say "what went wrong?" The point is there was nothing much right about their performance apart from the result. Pundits (very) often confuse a great result with a great performance.

I would also respectfully disagree with Spurf in that these tactics produce drama. Yes a pen shootout is unarguably dramatic, but what about the other 90 mins? How quickly the direness of games are forgotten because they have dramatic endings. I'd much rather see an interesting game!

NB couldn't watch the end... did JT get to pick up the cup? I remember our own great Stevie P not being allowed to lift the UEFA cup as he was suspended.

Seriously, some of the things on this thread are the most bitter, insane ramblings I have ever read in my life.
Strangley though, even as a Chelsea fan I do sympathise....
in 2005 Chelsea were the best team in Europe, we smashed the Premier League with a record number of points and matches won.
We beat Barcelona in the Champions League and looked on course to have a dream season, then what happened, Liverpool came along with their ghost goal, defended in droves for 75 minutes, knocked us out, finished 5th in the League a full 38 points behind us and then went on to have the flukiest performance ever to become Champions of Europe.
That year, it should have been us... we WERE the best, like Barca are now!
Its ironic that in the year where we have our worst league performance in 12 years and are far from the most quality team in Europe, we become Champions of Europe.....go figure.

I felt bad for Spurs before I read this thread, but some of the posts about Corruption and Robben being paid off are completely ridiculous, and utterly bitter.
You are a quality side, you will bounce back, try to take Arsenals place in the top 4 next year, that'll cheer you up.
Hopefully we can improve and be up there aswell.

^ is the most deluded take on a game ever

Liverpool played football in 2005, chelsea even at their best were a maureen hoofball team, wtf are you on about?

Liverpool played very wel and had plenty of posession in both games in 2005 v Chelsea, what game did you watch
Liverpool scored 3 goals in the final and attempted to play football.
Liverpool didnt put 10 men in 10 yards of pitch

And you call us bitter after your deluded recap of 2005, in 2005 your lot could not score 1 goal in 2 CL games even though you spend over 200m on a team so..

Chelsea played no football in all 3 games since the semis, they had no choice, if they tried to pay football against any of those teams they'd have lost which is fair enough but Chelsea opted out of playing before a ball was kicked and played last night for penalties from hte first minute, a disgrace.

Chelsea's whole CL was dependent on Barca and then Bayern opening up chelsea who sat back time and time again only to waste chances. Even 2 penalties missed, when your luck is in it is in as in 2005, but Liverpool fans point to that huge slice of luck time and time again but chelsea fans put theiir barca win as the best cl performance ever, which is the biggest CL joke ever.

No one with any ounce of common sense believes this, it was destiny (as drogba said) for you to win the cup, messi missing a pen in the semi, robben missing a pen in the final, it was just meant to be.

Personally i'm ignoring the fans of your club that have a vile personality and really do act like thugs as not all chelsea fans are this way and for the pros like drogba and lampard, they deserve this win.

Really mate, for all the BS you just wrote, all I read was this:
RAW ARR RAARRR *DROOL* RAAR AGRRRA RAAAEEWW

Liverpool were **** in the league in 2005, Just as we have been this year. You really are coming across like dummy spitting kid. Its not Chelsea's fault that UEFA made this rule.
Infact, that can be blamed on Liverpool aswell as they were the first to benefit from it. My point was, we were the best team that year and we lost out, and its ironic that we are far from the best this year and won it....thats all.

Unlucky guys I do feel for you. I will admit to wanting Chelsea to win (as soon as we didn't finish 4th that is!!) because they are the (more) English side but you finished 4th on merit and thus 5 English teams should be in the CL. I'm sure if it were Man U who finished 4th then the FA would have tried to do something about it. I have to say I think you should really have finished 3rd though. Despite what Harry says I don't think you need much new investment to be competitive for the top 4. If you can keep your current squad together you should be fine, the England manager speculation undid your season and that won't happen again. As long as you can keep Adebayor, Bale, Modric - the latter of whom I rate as good as anyone in the league - then you will be fine!! See you in the Europa league, let's hope thursday-sunday games doesn't cost either of us too many points in the league!

The main reason for Italian teams employing Catenaccio in the 70's was because of the lack of any decent creative players being produced in that era. It's notable that some managers from that era are still very defensive regardless of the players at their disposal (Trapattoni being the obvious example) whilst managers who came through later (such as Capello, Lippi, Ancelotti) would be more adventurous if they had creative players available.

Chelsea did have creative players - Mata - available last night, just as they did against Barca, yet they showed a complete lack of willing to play the game, just as Red Star Belgrade decided to park the bus in the '91 final and hang out for penalties despite having Savicevic, Jugovic and Prosinecki in their team.

I can't disagree with what you've said. Those allegations are ridiculous. I still don't care for the way you've achieved what you have. I can't think that Uncle Roman visualized it happening this way, either. Seriously, I don't like to see those sort of tactics from anybody. It does nothing to enhance football, and will only drive fans away if your example is followed as "the way to achieve success"

There was no way we could match their attacking strength given the squad we had to put out last night, therefore to stand any chance at all we had to nullify their attack. Which we did, it’s called tactics and they were spot on. Pretty no ...effective yes.

We deserve last night end of!!

PS..................I hope this bores you as well
