i think we need a 100 million+ transfer budget to even compete for a top 4 finish , i just have a bad feeling:emoticon-0107-sweat the owners wont stump up any cash.
    hope im proved wrong though.

Don't think it will be that much maybe 30-40 mill plus player sales. Throwing money at it works in some but not all cases. I think the appointment of a new manager is far more important than at the moment. I think we need 3 quality players, creative midfield, right winger and a goals corer. In fact if we had a 25 goal a season striker last season we probably wouldn't be having this conversation and kenny would still have his job. God know we created enough last year to have got in the top four and put that with hitting the woodwork 33 times then maybe what we need to buy is some LUCK....go sign de matteo as manager he has more luck than another bugger.

I'm sure they've stated we have a 30mil budget for the summer - However, if we sell a few players that budget could rise to 50mil (ish)

If we buy wisely like Newcastle have then 30-50mil is decent amount.

As of now, I have no idea how we'll play and therefor what we need for the summer. Under Kenny, I'd of said:

    1 x RW = £25m
    1 x FW = £25m
    1 x DM = £15m
    1 x LB (cover) = £6m
    1 x CB = £10 (Assumes Carra is a distant choice)

    Total = £81m

Reckon we'll sell around £20-£30m worth (Kuyt, Maxi, Aqua, Cole and more)

SO approx £50-£60 needed under Kenny? Who knows what the new manager will want to do!

We can go in 2 steps. First we need to get into the top four.

With the options of low/free deals on Hoilett, Diame and Figuroa we could improve very well, freeing up money for a striker and a creative attacking mid.

I'd take Hoilett on a free.

Elm has had a really good season, would improve us and would cost under £10M probably.

We need another two forward players, that much is clear. Pablo Hernandez or someone of his calibre would cost around £15-20M.

The likes of Lavezzi (who I'd love) are unrealistic and would cost around what, £25M?

Hard to tell what will happen. It was painful last summer to see the money being wasted.

Still think in general we have a strong squad, we just need to bring in 3 players to help the first 11.

Don't think we need an awful lot. The likes of Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Shelvey, Adam have a years experience with us and playing together now and we saw how well the team can play when they all play together. If we keep the squad together and remember we'll have Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez & possibly Aqualani back after long absences this season.

We need a RW, I think that's clear for everyone and depending if Aqualani stays or not, think we need a creative midfielder which would allow Gerrard to sit further back with Lucas if we play 5 in midfield.

Suarez & Carroll look to be gelling and forming a decent partnership so would probably try and go for a cheaper forward as backup for them.

Wingers for both left and right in my opinion. I actually think Robben might feel like a move after last nights ridiculous outcome.
Otherwise, we should try and get Iker Munain, probably around £20m I would imagine. We had a very good thread a week ago about clubs who have under achieved with very good players available.

Suarez got 49 goals in 48 names at Ajax. Carroll almost made it with 19 in 2010, It's not like we didn't create the chances so to my mind even if we'd had David Villa he'd probably have been hitting the woodwork, too. Not that I'd say no to another striker. Hell, give us three but this idea that one would've fared any better than those we had is somewhat bogus to my mind.

Robben? Seriously? A geriatric self-publicist who puts his head down, cuts inside and shoots every time. I'd rather have Ribery than that toerag and Ribery makes Suarez look like Mother Teresa. It's all about Robben with Robben. No wonder Ribery lamped him.

Suarez getting 49 goals in 48 games for Ajax has nothing to do with it - he scored 11/12 (?) in the league for Liverpool, and that's what matters. He could have scored 200000 goals for Ajax for all I care. Carroll has barely scored any goals. Hence we need an alternative, a fox in the box type striker.

I'm not dissing Suarez, but he didn't score anywhere near enough goals as was expected of him. It just show's how easy the strikers find the Dutch league, especially as it's known for such poor defences. For Uruguay he has a good record, due to playing alongside someone who can accommodate his style. That's what we need - Or just keep playing Carroll so they get that understanding. Kenny made a big mistake dropping Carroll every other game as when they played together they hardly connected.

for me the owners look ****ing clueless. sack a manager with no clue who to get to replace him. i would have given kenny another year to jell his squad, one or two out and a couple in. i think the team isn't far off...if we had converted half the chances we made the top 4 would have been a hell of a lot closer.

my biggest concern is that they look like they are trying to do stuff on the cheap. we need a 60,000 (at least) seater stadium. i read somewhere that man u make 3 MILLION POUNDS more each home game than LFC....that is a big chunk of money to be losing out on.

we might have to do an arsenal (build a stadium and not spend a lot on the team) to secure the future revenue. it needs to be done.
    have to see what happens....

    no you don't

we were one game off it and broke even

one £10mil defender or another well scouted £10mil striker we would have been 3rd, direct qualification

if anything this season has shown that you don't need to spend oodles to get in the top four.

So we get a bottom feeder as a manager who has no rep whatsoever for any great signings, buy a bloke Stoke rejected cos of his dodgy knee and buy a lottery ticket to see if we get lucky.

I have a mind like Rainman and I've worked it that we need exactly £5.37.

I think Newcastle have bought very well indeed. If only we'd been so shrewd instead of throwing money at anyone.

Think it shows the different of buying British & buying foreign. Ba, Cisse, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, combined fee about the same as Downing.
