That would help spread the champions league financial love. Though this season has not needed it. Ince the more impressive of the two wingers.
But it's brilliant for the neutral, and that's what football is becoming. Just heard that Nigel is at Wembley [maybe with the Beeb].
Crewe manager Steve Davis said he used to hate the playoffs and he thought that it should be the top 3 going up, but now he has come around to the idea as it makes the Football League so much more competitive. I don't know how much that has to do with his team finishing 7th this season.
I reckon it makes perfect sense - though I don't like being in it. It's not only for the games themselves, but for the quality of the season itself. The top three had the season pretty much wrapped up by the three-quarter point. And then the rest of the teams have nothing much to play for. But with the top six positions open for competition, there's a lot of motivated teams right down the the halfway point of the table. Which is one of the reasons why the Championship is the fourth most watched league in the world.
Joe has hinted at the reason why the play-offs work so well in that it makes the league so much more competitive. No team in the PL can come along and make a late run at making the Champions League, yet the Championship is still very much alive and kicking right down to mid-table, with just a few weeks to go. It has also influenced the style of football that is being played in the Championship, and lower leagues, IMO. Then we get the finals in the end, which are such a spectacle. All the teams play within the same rules, so they live or die by them. And WHU win, as I write.
West ham should NOT have had to go through this IMHO . I will make no further comment on this subject .
