As much as I don't think Lambert will leave for Villa, OGS is in a very different situation to Lambert. He has a young family that are now settled in or around Molde and obviously Villa's offer wasn't tempting enough to leave his homeland. I would imagine had he been in charge of a British club, he would of already been named new manager.<ok>

Mess with McNally at your peril! I would do everything he says, I wonder if he will sue the Sun as he mentioned their article.

I would imagine that the money Villa would have had to pay to release OGS from his contract, would of replaced the money lost from a sponsor, as I can't imagine there is a lot of money flying around in Norwegian football.

Think your probably right, although to be fair it doesn't look as though he rejected it now. Looks like Molde did

If Holt realy wants to leave (other than his agent trying to stir things up), why did he go to the expense and upheaval of moving his wife and young family to Hethersett only a few months ago??

I believe David McNally's twitter comments!!!

Man, you just gotta love David McNally. Can we give him a squad number next year? I bet he'd score a hat-trick in the cup final, the guy is absolute quality <ok>

As for Holty, if he does want 20k for four years I reckon we should offer him 21k for four years. I reckon he'll still be doing a job when he's 34, and if even by the end of his career he's only making cameos he's still got to be worth a million pounds a season for what he brings to the club as a whole. We all knows he's worth far more to us than the goals and we'd never be able to replace him without spending an absolute fortune and gambling on someone might not be fit to lace his boots and would carry a hell of a weight of expecation on their shoulders from the off.

Look at Kevin Davies who is a simlar type of player, he's still ging strong at 36 or whatever he is and I bet he's earning far more than 20k a week. If we're an established Premiership club with a bigger ground capacity in four years time, which I honestly expect us to be if we can keep hold of Holt and Lambert, then 20k a week by that time will be next to sod all. And how gutted would we all be if he went off to become a legend at Sunderland or Everton or somewhere. Devastated is the word, we've got to give him what he wants and let's not bite off our nose to spite our face. It's not like we're taking a punt on an unknown quantity and offering them crazy money, Holty is an absolute legend at the club, one of the most iconic players of my lifetime along with the likes of Hucks, Iwan, and Flecky and we should move heaven and earth to keep him here for the rest of his career, especialy if that's what he wants as well.

Just my opinion of what Supers said further up the thread <ok>

I can completely understand GH looking to feather his nest as best he can for his future career and subsequent retirement. If he wants something the club is not prepared to offer then we should sell him for as much as we can and wish him well before using the funds to replace him with someone like Rhodes. There are a lot of strikers with potential looking for the chance to prove themselves at a progressive club like ours.

My gut feeling is that this is the first shot in a contract war which will probably be resolved and GH will still be in Hethersett come August.

I hope that the club and player can find a compromise as it would be good for all parties to have GH at the club next season hopefully showing a new young striker the ropes. I can't imagine that this has anything to do with Whitbread/Wilbs or a perceived lack of ambition as at the end of season dinner all the talk was of PL having a decent war chest to strengthen. As captain surely you would be in a position to speak with the gaffer snd get a feel for what he is planning for the summer.

And I don't think PL will touch Villa.

Twenty grand a week is a lot but you are not going to get a player of his quality for less.As we were saying yesterday if that sorts it just pay him.

Very true. If the club stands firm and refuses to negotiate at all and in a worst case scenario Holt does leave, what sort of calibre of player would you get for £20k a week?

I bet Rodrigues and Rhodes are on parity with that now, despite being at lower league clubs.

Holt will still be a handful even at 34/35 years old since his main goal-scoring attributes are power and determination rather than speed or mobility. The latter two are the ones that tend to get lost with age, so with that in mind I'd say give him an increase in wages and contract length as I'm sure he'll still be doing what he always does over the next couple of seasons. Besides I think he'd soon be gone before he would turn into an expensive bench warmer, and Carlisle United would probably be his level by then so he could fulfil that little dream too.

I do hope now that his agent was the perpetrator behind the transfer request and he ends up getting the sack for it.

Holt has loads to offer yet. Niall Quinn was his age when he went to Sunderland and he turned into a club legend for them.

Holt is already a NCFC legend so if he was to stay with us for another 3-4 years his story would be written into folklore forever! :emoticon-0148-yes:

His still got a few seasons worth of goals left then perhaps a season or two on the bench never doubt him on that.

Following on from what McNally said on twitter, Holt would be fully aware of the end of season process that McNally explained in his tweets. If it was Holt's decision he would bring it up himself at the relevant stage. McNally explained that the club hasn't moved on to the stage where they deal with players who want to extend contracts or whatever. I therefore feel that a lot of pressure was put on Holt and club by the agent.

    wonky <ok>

unfortunately some agents (not all) are a law unto themselves. i wouldn't bet against holt feeling a tad embarrassed by all this.

Well if the City fans that turn up on Tuesday night give him a great reception instead of booing, he might tell his agent where to go.<ok>

If Holt really wnated to leave he would have waited a while until the relevant stage. Also, if it was up to Holt I expect he would have wanted to keep it in the club. Maybe the agent wanted to leak it to the media to add more pressure.

I've just had a horrible thought after saying about not booing Holt on Tuesday night. If Holt didn't hand this request in and is was all down to the agent, the last thing the fans need to do is boo Holt. This could lead him to thinking that maybe his agent is right and its time for a move. We all know there are a few mindless morons that go to Carrow Road, so if they start on him, the people that are like sheep could start.

Agreed Carra, there will be some idiots there. I feel you could never boo Holt anway after all that he has done for the club.

I'm sure there will be a few boo boys but they will be drowned out be support. I think Holt should not play on tuesday as the game should be about Drury and if Holt plays the spotlight is bound to be on him. Saying that if he didn't play can you imagine the rumours, so maybe not a good idea.

unfortunately, we have a lot of pillocks who support our club. some on twitter are claiming they are going to boo him tuesday night and that as far as they are concerned he is not a city player anymore. total idiots.
