Rogers turned us down and there is more chance of hell freezing over than getting Mourinho or Ancellotti. We have to accept we aren't in the top bracket now and adjust our recruiting policy accordingly.

Why embarassing? I think they've identified a number of targets who could be fitting and just want to make the correct decision after an interview process. Would you prefer they only spoke to Martinez (random example) and just hired him without looking at other options? We should be happy they're considering multiple choices. All the crap that's in the news is exactly that, crap. News like a new manager never stays quiet with morons like Wheelan sitting around, and of course the media can't wait to spin it negatively on us. Apparantly, according to them, looking at several choices means we dont' know what we're doing instead of looking for the right candidate. You can't just think one guy is going to be ideal without considering what others may bring to the job. Idiotic take on the situation. Anyway, here's where we're up to on managers. The following 6 managers have been asked if they'd be interested in the job and will they attend an interview: Laudrup - Accepted Rafa - Accepted Martinez - Accepted Pep - Rejected Klopp - Rejected Rodgers - Rejected There may be more who've been approached so far, but we know these 6 from various leaks (external, like Wheelan, or Rafa himself, etc).
It won't stroke any egos of the top targets that's for sure; "We really believe your our clubs future" "are you saying that to the other 12 blokes too?" I think at least half these names have come out of the journo's mystic source hat. Throw a wide enough net you can come back tapping your nose & pointing that you knew all along.
I don't agree. What do we always say "No-one is bigger than the club" that includes the manager. Do we really want someone who's ego can't withstand having to compete for the job. Any manager who thinks that he should be the only choice, and they need to beg?... sorry, don't want. Someone who is prepared to go talk to the owners and enthuse about his vision for the club and prove he is a better choice than the other 11, and has the grounding and modesty to understand that he does not have any right to walk into such a club. The only thing I disagree with, is this all happening in the states, Oi FSG get on a plane, and get over here, this concerns our club, not your FSG office.
Completely agree. I think it's perfectly acceptable that managers should have to sell their vision for the club to us and not us to go grovelling to them hoping they take the job. Managers who have rejected the opportunity of an interview so far have been for several reasons (year sabatical, happy with their current club, don't believe they're ready yet) but not simply just because 'our club is beneath them' which is pretty much how it's being reported. The negativity this process is getting from the media is unbelievable, almost as much as the idiots who lap it all up like dogs. I do feel FSG should be at Anfield, for professional reasons more than anything else. Perfect backdrop for interviews also, a nice box overlooking the stadium would set the extent of the task into perspective.
Reports today are suggesting Laudrup will be approached. Villa Boas will hold talks this week (assumbly Martinez to). Guardiola and Capello are not interest. I'm surprised no papers have said Steve McClaren.
Carlo Ancelotti is a no go, he's in charge of PSG, and he has it good. They'll dominate French football for the next ten years (Unless Montpellier have anything to do with it) so why leave a good thing? Rafa, Martinez, AVB and Laudrup seem to be the names, my opinion changes all the time though so I'll be pleased with any of these four, aslong as we give him time and let him (Re)settle. As for transfer budgets? I think we'll have alot more than £30m, let's face it, even Moores and Parry could muster that amount up but today we have alot more money lying about so pushing £60m is a possibility. Though some of that could end up at Wigan. Laudrup was sacked by Spartak Moscow and fell out with Mallorca's president so is he ideal? Did well at Brondby and Getafe before that though and despite difficulties at Mallorca he did a tidy job. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough.
Remember we are not in the Champions League and have not been for two going on three seasons now I expect it to be around the reported £30m mark plus any sales, of which there should be a fair chunk to come in when you consider the players we have out on loan.
I clearly remember Henry saying he doesnt do transfer budgets. He wants to be approached every time the manager wants to sign and player, they will talk it through and a verdict will be made. I'm not sure we'll get much from loaned players. I can see Cole either staying or going on another loan (reading want him on loan, West Ham might to, maybe QPR). Aquilani could be just £4million The rest £2million and lesson.
Ah yes, I remember that too. However, there will still be a limit to what we will spend whether a transfer budget is set or not.
I dont think it matters, sales will be given to the new gaffer I'm sure but £30m minimum I would hope. All we hear about is how great the financial aspect of the club is, and with players like Ramirez (£20m) being banded about surely it tops the £30m mark?

I think Champions League income does matter, especially considering FFP and the need for funds towards the stadium. From reports i have read, our income is roughly in line with when we was playing Champions League football a few seasons ago because of increased sponsorship and kit deals etc. plus, of course, we don't have owners swindling money out the club along with massive debts, thats got to help. To be honest, I don't care how much we have to spend, so long as we sign the right players for the right positions... PS - if we are looking at signing along the lines of the '£20m for Ramirez' callibre then £30m won't go very far will it!

Id noticed him on the list. I actually thought he was a manager nowadays anyway (prior to seeing him on this list) but having just googled him, it appears not. He is 100-1 though. Carragher was 100-1 with WH yesterday, now 66-1 and 33-1 with Sky Bet. Gerrard was 150-1 but is now 250-1.
