if thats it ok at least we will have a club !! stick to your guns MacNally the club is more important than overpaid ball kickers they come and go anyway
It's really far too early for us to be thinking of breaking our wage structure. I never want my club in the financial **** again, even if it means yo-yoing in the leagues. Can you imagine ending up like Portsmouth or even worse Glasgow Rangers ? Doesn't bear thinking about
This I have no problem if players walk away because we will not pay inflated wages and put the future of the club at risk as many other teams have done in the past and a few other will do in the future.
Why do you need better players when you finished 12th in the League? Norwich and Swansea are in a similair position. Why our managers would walk away now seems absurd to me. Both have worked hard to get the Clubs to The Premiership - now they should enjoy it. I can't see either leaving. If they stay then they only have to stick to the principles that got them there - there is no need to break the bank. As for Grant Holt's transfer request - unless he has a personal issue with Norwich then again, it is absurd to leave.
ok, i haven't read through this thread so others may already know this too but i have been talking to two or three people who are normally very clued up about things at norwich. they have all said the same thing which makes me think this is now where we stand. this is NOT about holt wanting more money first and foremost, although he does want a pay increase (quite right too after this season). i won't go into figures but he has asked for slightly more than the club are prepared to pay, however, this is not the stumbling block. the issue comes with the extension to his contract. holt wants the rest of his career sorted and holt's agent asked for a two year extension taking him to 35 years of age effectively. as i understand it, there was no offer to reduce his wages during this period initially. this would have meant we could be carrying a 34-35 year old on top money who doesn't get a game. now i'm sure there is a compromise to be found in terms of offering him at least one more year (this may already have happened) and giving him that security but you can see that the club are in fact quite right to stand their guard on this because it could be a big problem in two years time. there is no guarantee, with incoming players, that grant holt will be a regular starter next year yet alone in three years time. he deserves to be paid highly for all he has done but the issue between the parties is length of contract, not the amount of money he wants next season. if this is all wrong then i'll apologise but it seems very sound to me. it's all about security for holt and his family
So if he is not going to get a 3-4 yr contract with us, then his agent has probably said try and get a move somewhere else for a 2 yr contract on double the money Intersting supers
Seems fair enough but the last line about security **** me about £1m a year for a couple of years would do me and it is all about money nothing more; stay on thesamecontract for 4 years then.
Trouble is, if the club concede to one player's wage demands, then the flood gates have been opened and there will most likely be a procession of players thinking they're worth more. The opposite side of the coin is, where the hell are we going to find a striker/captain/leader of Holt's calibre for anything like £16k a week? Whether we or David McNally likes it or not, the game - and in particular the wage structure has moved on now we're at the 'top table'. I'm not saying they should concede to Holt's demands, but this seven year plan that we're three years ahead of, didn't that legislate for paying off the debt as well as hitting the heights as a footballing club? So, in theory, we could reward our better players more highly, and still pay off the debt balance within those seven years - just a thought.
This is a fair thing to say, it would explain the "out of the blue"ness about it. I don't believe holt wants to leave, and I think this can all be sorted out But brace yourself for a load of fans from other clubs racing on here to tell us exactly what's going on with our player and how we deal with it
Well went to bed last night, I woke up today after having a horrible dream that Holty handed in a transfer request, switched on the PC and found out that it wasn't a dream...bugger. I think it could be quite telling that we haven't heard anything official from the club, to me that suggests there's more to it than meets the eye. I do think we will know by the end of the day though, fingers crossed Holty is still a Norwich player.
Seems a reasonable assessment and would make a lot of sense from his perspective, if not the clubs. If true, how likely is he to get a 4 year deal anywhere else unless he drops a league or two? I cannot imagine a PL club offering a long term contract for exactly the same reason, he may well not be a regular in the starting line up.
Makes sense to me supers and I think the club are doing the right thing regarding length of his deal. I personally think next season, if we stay up again, will be his last as a regular starter so it would seem absurd to be paying him 20k+ for 3 years on the bench.
I still find it difficult to come to the terms withe the wages football pays. My immediate reaction is that the club are doing the right thing, tell him to piss off
i don't agree that we should break our wage structure, which is structured in such a way to help the club be stable, for anyone, not even the manager, let alone our captain. i understand holt's desire for a longer contract and that appears to be the issue more than our wage structure, which in all likelihood would not be broken by giving into his demands, but we cannot afford to pay a substitute top dollar. he might be surplus to requirements in two years time and nobody will be able to afford him because he's on a big wage and 33 years of age. we'd be stuck with him for another two years. what if we were then relegated? this was the issue with whitbread too, hence he has gone. i have no problem with the club refusing to yield - the club is far more important than any player
I'd take dreams with a pinch of salt.In mine last night my son broke into a rectory and stole the brass coat pegs for scrap metal and then sat drinking tea with the vicar.I blame his school.Although of course this is really an ecumenical matter.
its important to have a dream. mine consists of charlize theron smothered in honey while grant holt signs a new contract in the corner of the room
If he leaves, he leaves, players move on. I have complete faith in our manager to sign a more than adequate replacement ......................... that is if we still have our manager this time next week, hmm ......................... then again, if we lose our manager I have complete faith in McNally appointing a more than adequate replacement, hmm ......................... then again, if we lose our CEO .........oh bugger
We won't get a better striker than Holt on our budget. We must keep him at Carrow Road Sent from my Android using Tapatalk
