The Arsenal figure is a bit misleading too. They have sold a massive amount of season tickets, but frequently ST holders don't turn up. So it looks like they have a full stadium on paper, but in practice there are plenty of empty seats - seats have been sold but not occupied. Winds my Gooner mates up a lot, because it is very difficult to get an ST for the Emirates unless you already have one. And they look toward to a couple of hours kip in the library every match day.
On a typical family day out, they'll count a fan's sister and mother seperately even if they might be one and the same person...
mate, basically just shows what a load of bull statistcs really are.....! Never used them to prove a point as they can be manipulated to prove anything..!
Very true! But with Norwich there's not even a need to manipulate, a little stick of your pin into one norwich fan and all 26K are so much manure again
That's why I've always said judge teams on the numbers they take away, it's the only even way of really measuring things as allocation is the same/similar and the only variable is kick off time and day of the week
This! Exactly DL, i have always said, you judge real clubs by away support. I used to get stick in the Championship from other clubs who used go on about how they got 20K home gates and then they would take 200 away. We may have only got 14-17K at home but averaged 1500 away. Cannot understan how a club gets 25K at home and take 200 away?
Same here, we get stick for the 8,000 gate we got vs Coventry to this day but our away support has always been better than our home (well since the 70s when we were relegated anyway), I remember about 14 years ago we took our entire allocation to Blackburn away midweek and had hundreds in the home end. I would honestly say that at Chelsea we probably have 30,000-35,000 that go to home games with the other 12,000-7,000 being tourists/day trippers/non-regulars etc, whereas with QPR I would guess near enough all 18,000 are hardcore QPR fans. I went to the Emirates once for a big game (Liverpool in what was a title decider effectively) and was sat next to my Dad (United fan) and next to him we were sat next to 2 Villa fans from Birmingham. Anyone can get tickets to home games it's easy, look at Fulham. No offence but I reckon a good 75% of the 25,000 are tourists, day trippers, schools etc. Fulham (on a weekend) did not take a fraction of what the likes of QPR and Bolton took midweek and I say this as an eye witness as well. At least at an away game even though there is less of you, you can be sure everyone bar the odd 1 or 2 is a devout fan of your club. I like that feeling, hence why I go to more away games than home
Or we could endear ourselves further to our East Anglian chums by demanding an FA enquiry and points deduction for blatant cheating and massaging of attendance figures. Surprised that some Trotters fans haven't asked for that yet - enough for them to have a second miracle this season.
That was not a miracle. Most refs last season had a rule of thumb "if its QPR don't give them the decision. They can take it." Thats' all that happened. Bloody par for the course. Defo not a miracle. I refer to Fab M coming back from the dead as if he'd simply woken up from a bad dream.
Our attendance is 1000 less than they think it is anyway, we have the smallest ground, we've sold out almost every home game but then we get in the 17k's because of away fans e/g we sold out v stoke last week but they only brought around 900 so the attendance was about 17,400
......only to find the nightmare continuing with Owen Coyle's face looming over him, yelling 'thank god you died, gives me an excellent excuse for being relegated'
Why the feelings of shame? The stats are based on overall capacity ie home and away supporters. We have the lowest capacity by a long way of any Premier league club. FACT. I'm more interested in the percentage stats. We were not bottom in percentage terms. Until we have a bigger, better version of Loftus Road, we need to concentrate on being able to sell out the away allocation. For that we need to reduce prices. Better to have an extra 500 away fans even if we receive a fiver or tenner less per per seat. More money for us, higher percentage of seats filled. More atmosphere.
Bolton only brought about 500. We have sold out just about every game but teams like Blackburn/Wigan/Bolton/Stoke/Fulham only have an away support of about 1000 combined. Still it should be better next season as Southampton and Reading should bring a few being their first season up and West Ham (if they go up always have a good away following whoever they play).
I am sure we had 18331 at one home game last season that to me was the highest attendance. We seem to fill our allocation of around 15000 every week, it is the away fans that make up the balance. If they don't take their full allocation it seems as though we are not selling out.
