With the news that Paul Lambert has turned down the 'Pool job, is it now a fact that the LFC hot-seat is now officially the most poisoned chalice in English football, worse even than the England job, itself? Would Paul Lambert turn down the England job? Probably not. Clearly, Lambert sees Norwich as a bigger club than 'Pool, and the more capable of the two of surviving relegation. And, I doubt that few would disagree with him. So, guys, what are your views?
These are all jobs too dangerous for young men trying to build a career. Redknapp for Liverpool. He was after it anyway.
HIAG mate. I see your love of L.F.C. has not diminished with the passing of "The King" Seriously, it is still a big job in not just English, but European football. Unfortunately, for any prospective manager, the expectations are enormously high - unrealistically so, given the current set-up. However it appears that FSG will settle for nothing less than CL football. And, we all know what the price of failure is. All in all, it's still the England job. That truly is " Mission Impossible"
Still the England job for me. Everyone knows Liverpool have been garbage for a while, but there is a blindspot with England where everyone still thinks we can beat Holland, Germany and Spain with the right attitude. Completely ignoring the lack of players and technique.
If you do badly in the Liverpool job everyone will want you to stay, not just the Liverpool fans Just ask Rafa and Kenny
See, I believe that the 'Pool chalice contains the most poison, because whilst we England fans may well hold unrealistic expectations, we do nonetheless give credit to a manager who wears his heart on his sleeve, and sets out to attack teams. Also, despite our expectations, I do not believe that any sensible fan expects us to breeze past the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, and Spain, and also that we can expect to have very tough games against the likes of Germany, Holland, Italy, and France. Mousers, on the other extreme, expect always to be in the top 4 and to be challenging for the title. They still see themselves as the main rivals to United ffs! Sure, if you are a legend, like Kenny-boy, you'll get away with murder, provided you play attacking football (even if you do get hammered in the process), but no such comfort is granted to outsiders, such as "Gentleman" Roy. Finally, and despite the fact that some of us may no longer hold international football in the same esteem as we did prior to our woeful showing at the last World Cup Finals, nonetheless the England manager's job still carries with it some kudos, especially in world football. The same certainly can no longer be said of the 'Pool job. Even ex-'Pool legend John Barnes admitted that, recently, on Talk Sport radio.
Demanding CL footy does not mean that they will get a top manager in or that they have a squad good enough. I think it means that the owners are pissed off for virtually throwing away 120 million on mediocrity and this argument by Pool fans that the money was generated through sales is baseless because they still blew the money, money that was there to be spent wisely not to be blown just because it was there, silly argument by them. They are wanting their money back and there's 2 ways of achieving that 1) dismantle the team (cut off nose to spite face) 2) get a CL windfall ( living in hope ) I'd rather have the West Ham job.
Absolutely 100% agree with this. There are Mousers on their board saying that they want the new manager to be given the funds to re-build the team, and they site among the players they want to get rid of the likes of Henderson, Spearing, and Adam! These are plays that Kenny-boy spunked the owner's hard-earned cash in buying recently, and now the Mousers want to get rid of them AND expect the owners to pump in yet more funds to buy more players! Utterly and completely ****ing unbelievable!
Once you bring John Barnes on to your side and then you add the magic words 'Talk Sport' That's it! Ker Booooooooooooooooom! Eloquence counts for nothing, points for! piffle! You, your argument, and your credibility have been consigned to the Great Bin Of History wrapped tightly in the Daily Mail.
The Septics are prone to making huge errors of judgement, which they've clearly done with Dogleash and Comolli. However, the smart ones, which I think Henry is probably amongst, tend not to make the same mistake twice! Whoever gets the job can expect far closer scrutiny and a much more bumpy ride that Dalgleish had. With the Yanks, it's all about bucks, the rest is conversation. They've invested a lot of money. Be assured that they will expect a good return on it, or more heads will roll in short order.
they are in big trouble if that is their strategy and hope HIAG...no way would they recoup even 60 mill for that what they paid 120 mill for....and this continuos 'rebuilding' will piss off the odd decent player(Suarez?) who will decide to leave maybe. and no way is the new manager getting anywhere near 100 mill to spend......not even 50 mill i bet..so if he does want big money..he will have to sell the players they just acquired last season.....catch 22. on top of that the shadow of CL qualification will be hanging over you.....and the eyes of the owners piercing your back for every point dropped against mediocrity..or even a big team as it means they are not good enough to challenge them. all in all the new man is already in a corner before he has held up the 'Anfield' scarf and got journos around him in front of the dugout. so having thought about this...can i have the England job please? the only manager silly enough to flirt with the Liverpool job would be our very own Harry..but i think he has learnt a lesson this past few months...so much that after the Fulham game i heard him refer to Spurs as....'this is my club,Spurs are my team' god bless him..he really should create a not606 account..he would learn so much.
i think you are right..they have no allegiences..its about profits and they have learned quickly....so no money without sales..no big sales without selling your stars..and regardless of comings in and goings out...the gaffer better get CL footy for 2 reasons... 1) the owners demand it 2) if the manager doesnt get it but keeps his job then the 'Kenny' worshippers will be making alot of noise to remind the owners of how they treated their messiah...and then turning against the new man..ala the gentleman Hodgson who got hounded out. all in all i will say once again..can i have the England job please?
And for all those who still hang on to the belief that Comolli was undervalued by Spurs just remember it was he who thought Carroll was a snip at £35 million and the thug from Blackpool warranted a cool £16 million. Unbelievable!
wow is that what they paid for Adam? i didnt know...after the way he wasted money on 10 players to find one or 2 decent players for us only a bunch of fools would hire that man..i dont care how many gems he got for us..he soon left a bitter taste in the mouth with his flops at such big prices....god only Pool could be so naive!
Is it Lambert? I have heard Rodgers has turned it down, but not Lambert? Are we confusing the 2, or have 2 turned it down?
