Pods @ £12m shows you what you can get for 'small' money. If we sold Walcott for £25m (I know- maybe !!) - I'd like to see that money used to add 2 players.
yes but it so so difficult to sign anyone and more often than not no players are available. IN fact if you cant name the two players for £12m now, they dont exist ... unless of course we do sign a player, in which case its brilliant business by Wenger.
That was the whole point of my post. We're all panicking about losing RVP and meanwhile we could well also lose Theo on the cheap. I like him and would keep him and sincerely hope the management are trying to keep him at the club. @ BDM. I have no faith whatsoever that if we were to sell any player that the money would all go into getting replacements. At the very best you'd get a new player in... for less than the initial player was sold for.
JJSB - agreed. But I did say - 'I'd like to see'. not that we would. More likely the club will leave it invested in Greece.
I have never been convinced with Walcott as a Winger and I am not sure he would be able to work as a striker with our current system. He would need another forward upfront with him as other have mentioned he lacks strength to hold up defenders and seeing as RVP and POD are better finishers than Theo. I doubt they would be put in a support role. As for possible replacments that could be cheap, I would Highlight Victor Moses and junior hoilett, both of whom I think are better wingers than Theo and would offer more in that position
Moses and Hoillet are both as inconsistent as Theo, it just gets highlighted less as they played for struggling sides. Victor Moses has all the attributes to be amazing but it's only in Wigan's last 10 games that he finally stepped it up. Is that enough to base buying him on? Hoillet strikes me as a less **** Kalou/possible upgrade on Gervinho which we already have in Podolski. I'd not be upset to sign either as they would add strength to our squad depth but they're not in the calibre of a starting 11 that I'd hope for. Just my opinion though innit.
I would agree with you in that I dont think they are first team players but then again I dont think Theo deserves a first team place in all honesty (I personally dont think he's good enough for Arsenal and would welcome Wenger looking for a replacement for him if he kicks up a fuss about playing as a winger). Lets be honest does anyone really think he would be striker ahead of the likes of RVP or POD? From what I have seen of Cambel he will be ahead of Walcott in the striker pecking order (seems a far better finisher).
Also I think Moses could be decent punt because he was the main reason for Wigans recent form and the fact that Wigan beat United, us and Drew with Chelsea was laregly because of his performances. I think this shows that he has all the ability to be a great addition and no disrespect to Wigan (who I really like) but they dont have the same quality of players providing him with opportunites like he could have at Arsenal. He takes people on for fun and could get a lot of assits for our forward players, he's not a great finisher though which is his main weakpoint but I think he would offer frar more of a 90 minute period than Walcott curently does.
Why is everyone talking about players like Moses or Hoilett?!?! What was the point of our grand Arsenal plan of super sustainability and riches, If we were going to go in for players of the quality of Moses? We should have just frigging stayed at Highbury. At least we bought some class back in the days, now even the fans are talking about buying mediocre players. It's damn pointless having a huge stadium generating that much revenue and having so little ambition....
Moses had 103 shots last season and scored 6, he also managed 1 assist. If we sign Moses I WILL loose faith! Theo had 76 shots scored 8 and get 8 assists (league figures for both players) this is half of arsenals problem, we are usually looking at players that have shone (no matter how dimly) in teams of a much lower standard than us. Moses might be one of those who joins a big club and proves he is brilliant but should we always be taking that chance on players? I think not...
I agree with you entirley, but can you name a world class player that we can afford for say 12 Million? Any great player will inevitably be drawn to Man City and there wealth and we can't finically compete with them especially when Stan seems to be tight with his money, I hate what has happened to our club but this is the reality we are faced with. I mean players like Walcott, Ramsey or Gervinho would never have got into the the Arsenal squad a few years ago.
Podolski. World Class without a doubt. 26 years old 112 goals in the German League. 43 goals for Germany.
Yes but not many clubs are stupid enough to let their best players contracts run down to the final ye- ah. Dammit.
Yeah Podolski is class but we are talking about a world class winger and I cant think of many espeically in that price range. Podolski was a steal imo and I dont think there will be many other bargins like that this summer, then again we could get a real Gem that no ones heard of like Cabaye for Newcastle.
A few things - strikers cost more than wingers and we got a quality striker for £12m and there are plenty of quality players between the £10m and £20m bracket. Hoilett and Moses ?? No thanks. If anyone thinks we are going to get back to the top with calibre of players like that they are mistaken. Decent enough players but not good enough for Arsenal.
Arsenal fans are crazy. They critisize Walcott for not being efficient enough then call for us to sign players like Hoilett & N'zogbia !! Makes no sense. Podolski is TOP class. He has'nt prven it consistantly at Club level yet but he will with us.
who said N'zogbia!?! and Walcott is not efficient enough, the fans that think Walcott is class are the real deluded ones here, considering how long he has been at Arsenal I have seen very little developmenent from him. I didnt say players like Moses are first team material but they would make decent backup. And Hothead I can think of a world class winger who would cost between 10-20 mill, could you name me any? I dont see how people think we will get to the top with players like Walcott in the first team.
As bad as Walcott can be, he scores far more goals than any of the mentioned names to replace him - so whats the point in replacing him with players that are not as good as him ? Walcott is inconsistent and a crap winger ... but I see him in a totally different role at Arsenal. As a forward ... go on my son !!
But that’s what I’m getting at, I said that I don’t think he will ever be played in that role for Arsenal given our current striker options, so ultimately he will always be played on the wings which I don't think he can play that role.
