La Liga would boss it. Casillas Alves Puyol Pique Marcelo Alonso Xavi Iniesta Ronaldo Falcao Messi Outrageous! Maybe Llorente in for Falcao.. Premier League: Hart Walker Kompany Vidic Cole Yaya Toure Valencia/Mata Silva Bale RVP Rooney Bloody good team but we'd get ruined. Lique 1 wouldn't be looking too bad: Lloris Debuchy Sakho Bisevic Tremoulinas? M'Vila ???? Hazard Nene Bastos Giroud/Lopez Shaky defence, but amazing front 4!
There would be some amazing teams and some very difficult selections. I'd leave out Rooney for example much rather have Drogba. The premier league would lose out because it's strength in depth would be negated. So many great players wouldn't get a game.
The Bundesliga team would be pretty handy, too... Neuer Lahm Subotic Metzelder Badstuber Ribery Schweinsteiger Ballack Kagawa Gomez Huntelaar
Why not play safe and blame any failures on inexperience etc? GK: Hart (MC), Ruddy (Norwich), Forster (Celtic - loan) DR: Richards (MC) Naughton (Norwich - loan) DC: Jagielka (Eve) Lescott (MC) Jones (MU) Cahill (Che) DL: Cole (Che) Baines (Eve) MR: Lennon (TH) Walcott (Arse) MC: Britton (Swa) Parker (TH) Lampard (Che) Gerrard (Liv) ML: Young (MU) Sinclair (Swa) ST: Holt (Norwich) Welbeck (MU) Defoe (TH) Rooney (MU) Good blend of youth and experience perhaps?
It's certainly a plan but there's too many debuts in there for me. I'd have taken: Hart, Foster, Green Richards, Johnson, Rio, Jagielka, Lescott, Cahill, Cole, Baines Lennon, Milner, Lampard, Parker, Barry, Carrick, Young, Johnson Rooney, Crouch, Welbeck, Sturridge Quite a lot of experience but without the Terry circus and the usual attempts to play Gerrard and Lampard together.
But shouldnt the whole focus of this particular tournament be to blood new players, going into the next WC? Granted, that means removing: Holt: Replace with Sturridge Britton: Wilshire/Rodwell/Cleverley, injury dependent. Gerrard: Milner
interesting he leaves out foster, his number 1 all season at wba in favour of green who has been playing the championship.
I think, or at least I bloody hope, he'll probably do that afterwards. To be fair, a major ournament is probably not the environment into which you would choose to blood new players.
Experienced side for the Euros, inexperienced side with a few extra cameo appearances for the Olympics (Bale, Ramsey, Brunt, someone Scottish...). Chuck out all of the Moldy Generation after this tournament and build for the future. That should've been Hodgson's aim.
I don't believe in not trying for the Euros just because we don't think we can win it. True, I'm sure the golden generation will do as well as they usually do, but I am talking about taking a team of in form players (not just ones with the most famous names), and less egos. That means taking people like Holt. It also should mean not taking people who have failed at international level *regardless how good they appear to be at club football*. Age should be a consideration but not the only one. Germany not only played younger players at the WC but they had a batch of really good younger players coming through. Some of the ideas I've heard seem to be taking youth for the sake of it.
You know they'd bottle it. To be precise, the papers would announce the place and time for the victory celebration before the first game. After that game, which they'd only win by a goal, the hunt for scapegoats would be on, and everything would unravel from there.
I am going to go against the grain a bit here, I think Carroll was the perfect choice and I would pick him over crouch all day long. Whilst I agree Downing should not have got in ahead of Lennon or A Johnson, I actually dont think he has picked a bad squad (from what he has to choose from). Having Terry over Rio is an opinion that most of us dont share, but I would suggest that Woy knows the capabilities of both players slightly better then us and, if he thought he couldn't have both in the squad I am happy that he had the balls to omit one of them. So for me I only make possibly 3 changes to the squad Woy has picked, Richards for Johnson, A Johnson/Lennon for Downing and Carrick for Barry. I think the 4 strikers picked are spot on.
Was this just after he found out the rest of the squad? Another case of Fergie and his mysterious retiring 30 year olds. Twat.
