Good news this. Brendan knows that 6 losses on the trot up there and he's history. The lure of the big club and the big money that goes with it is all very well but he's given so much freedom here and more importantly immense support from the Board even if results don't go our way. He's playing it very cleverly imo if this is true.
Huge respect to Brendan for this, hope his actions are received and understood by other potential suitors, and us Jacks can all enjoy a stress-free summer
Brendan can become our equivilent of Bill Shankley , not for a momnt suggesting we'll acheive anything near to what he did but bear in mind he took them over when they were a second division club and look what he did
Great respect to Brendan. It says a lot for your club and supporters too. It's made my day that he has told the money men he's not interested.Good luck next season.
Can look forward to the Champions League in a couple of years then! But seriously great news - was beginning to forget the last time I had a relaxing Summer! But can now look forward to cheering Joey on at the olympics and witnessing another abject England failure at the Euro's!
He may regret his decision down the road ..... but I won't , that's for sure . It's a good time to become the Liverpool manager , nowhere to go but up IMO
The Club has made an official statement now http://www.swanseacity.net/page/Latest/0,,10354~2776443,00.html
Loyalty is such a rare & precious commodity these days. Well done to Brendan, & congratulations on having such a man at the helm you guys.
"The club is pleased to confirm that Brendan has declined the opportunity to speak about the vacant position."
Great stuff. Brendan is clearly a smart guy and knows better than to walk away from what appears to be a great project at Swansea. I have a huge soft spot for the Swans being a Bridgend born Welshman myself who was dragged over the border at a young age. So can't blame me for supporting Spurs but Swansea for me play the prettier football.
Apart from the Swans I've enjoyed watching Man City and Spurs the most. You'll all be Germans on Saturday.
Hope it puts off clubs like Aston Villa from 'tyre kicking' as he would hardly turn down Liverpool but consider them. However, the Guardian article was a little more of a grey area, saying he thought he had shown enough on the field to be offered a job and didnt feel he should be part of an interview process with other candidates. Although thats a bit baffling as I assume that any job offer would have to include some sort of interview, even if there was a good chance of getting it.
Thing is, with 11 other candidates involved in the process, what were the chances of him actually getting the job? And if he didn't get the job but had wanted to speak to Liverpool then doesn't that jeopardise his position at Swansea? How could he go back to Swansea then and tell his players with a straight face that they shouldn't go to Chelsea/Arsenal/Man Utd/Liverpool when he jumped to go at the first offer from a bigger club?
Also Watford gave him his chance as a manager, and at the end of the season he hopped off to Reading. I think this is more about turning down an interview for a job that he didnt stand much chance of getting as opposed to some sort of romantic gesture of loyalty
