Were there any other customers in the bar at the time of the alleged discharge of the alleged firearm?

Well the terminology used in the question - in particular 'bar' and 'bartender' - strongly suggest that the incident took place in the good old U.S. of A - such things are commonplace in that neck of the woods I'm led to believe. In fact I have just watched an episode of Law and Order - Criminal Intent in which this very thing happened, the only difference being that an innocent bystander ended up with no top to his head. Sadly, the original question made no mention of such collateral damage either.

Ok, it is clear this is going too far for us mere forum users.

babyhornetdan, I have taken the opportunity to pass on your concerns to the Hertforshire Constabulary. The homicide department should be in contact with you very soon, along with some representatives from Scotland Yard.

I wish the man had been shot. It would have saved us all these difficult questions

No, if that was the case he would be the one shooting the bartender.

water is a code for alcohol, and the bartender has invented a gun that shoots shots into a glass. the man tips him for doing it in an entertaining way.

Difficult questions? You thought these were difficult? Had he been shot, this could well have turned into a full blown murder enquiry - then you'd find out what difficult means!

We'd probably have to draft in our resident mystery expert - theo - to help with the really difficult questions! ;)

Funny you should think of me, BB...I was wondering whether the little grey cells should be applied to this teasing case. At least a 3-glass problem I think.

Both men are clearly insane. Who asks for water in a bar?

Doesn't whisky mean 'water of life' in gaelic? That is the sort of water I would ask for.

In Cyprus you always get a glass of water with a bottle of Zivania (Locally made hooch) - I think it is an eye wash to stop you going blind. Cyprus is the only country I know where they sell Meths on the same shelves as other spirits.

Talking of which I not sure if I've mentioned it before but I'm off there on holiday in 4 days time - yay :emoticon-0103-cool:

It looks as if we are getting somewhere now.

I am pretty confident the person asking for the water was a Gaelic speaking Cypriot.

Gaelic speaking greek cypriot! Then the barman would logically be a Turk.

This could be Winfrith's next case! ;) Hmm - the shotgun may be a problem though.

Enjoying the book by the way - when is the sequel due out? Are there film rights in the offing? :)

I'm always in awe of those who can write books - a friend of my wife is an author - Shona MacLean - and when I look at her then consider her books, I think "My God, how do you do it?".

A Turkish bartender with an obvious dislike for whisky and those who drink it - the plot thickens! Could he be a Muslim tasked with ridding the world of drunken infidels?
