Its all down to opinion Ruff(fair enough),but FSG are targeting Martinez because he's a cheap option not because of his previous track record and thats whats worrying.
Martinez will have a 'reported' 30m to spend,if true it shows FSG have'nt got any ambition.

Based on what, his time at Chelsea? So not the unbeaten season he managed in Portugal, or the Europa League win?
All di Matteo has done is reverted to what Ancelotti was doing before. He isn't trying anything new or innovative, and has actually been worse for them than AVB in terms of points per game (if you want stats, I can provide them.)

Have you seen our squad? The one that without its best player (arguably) and easily its best midfielder for 6 months of the 8 months in a season managed to reach 89 points and over 50+ in goal difference and only lost the league on goal difference in the last 90 seconds of the season.

Yes Fergie must take huge credit but players have to take a huge share aswell. Fergie can only make the plans, the players have to do the business still. They did, unfortunately another team did a little more business.

Now imagine the same team with a few additions in 2 years or 3 years, when the vast majority are playing in or just hitting their peaks.

When who hits there peak exactly?? Smalling, Jones, Welbeck and Cleverly are hardly world beaters laddy! Dont get sucked into Fergies ****! His team is aging, there is no money to spend as it all has to go on the clubs debt and the players coming through are useless.

The golden age of Man utd has gone.

However much I may agree with your post, this is a thread for Liverpool and scum fans. Go masturbate if you're that bored.

How good was Shankly's CV when he took over? Pretty sure he was mid table in the second division at the time and had never even gotten a club promoted. And Paisley didn't even have a CV!

    Looks pretty good to me.

Got Swansea promoted and then finished 8th all the while revolutionising their play style.

Managed to keep what really is a shockingly bad team, from a rugby town, in the PL against all odds while playing some attractive football at times and unlike a Mr AVB I think Martinez has shown he knows the PL and won't sod off back to the continent after a couple seasons.

Might be some questions as to how he can manage big egos and a large transfer kitty, but he's only 38(?). I think if Liverpool were to give him a chance and some time he'd have you back challenging for fourth soon enough and he might just go on to be a truly great manager.

Would rather him at United any day of the week over Maureen/AVB/Rijkaard.

Halfway through first season on FM12, went with United as I always do for my first game. Doing well so far, got rid of Park, Berbatov and some others and brought in Bender (10m) from Dortmund and Hazard from Lille (46m rising to 62m). Only had £21million budget and turned that to £40m through sales. Had to get Gill to finalise the Hazard deal, said it would make all the difference so they gave me the funds. Been very very good for me so far aswell. 17 games and 7 goals, 7 assists playing just behind the striker. Got him on rotation with Cleverly.

Anyway, P19 w15 d3 l1 ( Anfield 4-2 after being 2-0 up at half time lol ). 4231 formation being played with Welbeck, Hernandez and Rooney swapping. Rooney well off form but has been injured for 2/3 of the season so far.

Got a complete reserve team in the league cup, semi finals, not conceded a goal. Also went through the CL playing a team of half reserves and half first team, won group and unbeaten.

City are 1 point behind played a game more. Dont think I will shake them

Liverpool are 3rd, 11 points behind and played a game more. **** ****s.

    Thats the wrong comparison Swarbs.<laugh>

Shanks came from a 2nd division club to a 2nd division club in an era when most 'managers' never chose the starting 11,the club board picked the team.
and Paisley's CV was his years of success as a trainer, physio and assistant manager at the club he eventually managed.

If its as simple as that why was Atkinson sacked by Utd?,he won a couple of cups(success),as we are constantly told the game has moved on and success is vital,so wheres Martinez's success at the highest level?

Oh yeah, hes saved Wigan from relegation, wheres the trophy he won for that?

Buying flavour of the month managers who won a something with a big club elsewhere has sure worked well for Chelsea.

Far better to look for an up and coming manager than some reject of another big club. If they failed/walked out of clubs of equal or bigger size to you what makes you think they will have the determination and desire to build something long term for you.

Where was AVB's success at the highest level before Porto? Where was Guardiola's? Where was Maureens?

Just because he hasn't had the chance to succeed with a "decent" team is no reason to dismiss the man.

    Im not being reasonable.

    I hope you fail spectacularly!

Which is why I hope you don't appoint Martinez.... go for Rafa instead.

I heard he's good in Cups but not so hot in the league, can unearth the occasional good player (while buying six flops), likes to spend a lot of money (but not NET) and is a club Legend. What could go wrong!

Not sure how it's the wrong comparison. Shankly went from a few years of overachieving at small clubs without any major successes to managing one of England's biggest clubs that at the time was massively underachieving. IIRC at the time he moved Huddersfield were around seven or eight places below Liverpool? Martinez has had a few years of overachieving at relatively small clubs without any major success and could go on to manage one of England's biggest clubs that is currently massively underachieving. And how far ahead of Wigan in the table are Liverpool right now? I appreciate that times have changed, but for a club that seems to love historical parallels right now you can't argue against the similarities!

Atkinson is the wrong comparison - he wasn't sacked by Utd cos of his CV. He was sacked because he had been at the club for five and a half years, with little progress to show for it. He had never gotten us any higher than fourth, and the squad had shown no real signs of improvement during his tenure. You could argue the same about SAF, but at least he spent his first five years building for the future and had a long term plan, whereas Atkinson just seemed to take each season as it came.

It's 'doffs cap' you prole :emoticon-0173-middl
