This really belongs in the thread about Curbs. Not really worth starting a new one, but I wanted to add a poll.

If Chris Powell were to leave us for any reason, how many of you would be happy to see Curbs return as his replacement?

Please don't focus on the question of CP leaving, that is a purely hypothetical prelude to my question and is not the issue here.

Plenty of you are very ready to wish Curbs on some other club. But would you be equally ready to welcome him back here?

As the man who built the team spirit that Powell first understood when he joined the club all those years ago then yes, I would welcome him back in a management capacity. He won't have lost the ability he showed with both us and the whammers in a few short years and with the right coaching team underneath him (AD/DM etc) would do a good job.

He regularly demonstrates that he understands the current game in the punditry he undertakes, and continues to be booked for, by Sky.

If CP left then yes- with CP then not a chance. Funny how things have changed so quickly for us.

No I wouldn't.... I would fear he would do like Kenny Dalglish has at Liverpool, I am never one to believe that you should go back to a club that you have done well at in the past, he's a great manager and Wolves missed out big time on him this year, but I wouldn't take him back simply as I wouldn't want his reputation ruined.

I would hate to see fans get on his back if it didn't work out how we had hoped it would. It has been seen with Dalglish that the new generation of Liverpool fans got on Dalglish's back while the generation from Dalglish's hey day were a bit more forgiving. It would really hurt to see that happen at the Valley, to hear "Curbs out!" chants again would hurt so much (there were a few obviously from when he was there towards the end). He was a great servant to the club and was brilliant for us, if it wasn't for him, would there be a Charlton like we know and love? But yeah, I wouldn't take him back as Manager, Sorry Curbs

I wouldn't really like to see Curbs back. When some money-grabbing manager or player wants to cash in, they always say they are "looking for a new challenge". But there is some truth in it, especially among the few honorable ones like Curbs. It would be almost impossible for him to repeat, let alone exceed, what he has achieved at Charlton previously, so "where's the challenge"? Not much fun doing well, but not as well as previously.

But he could do something similar at a similarly sized club which is under-performing. I can think of several, but none within easy travelling distance of Essex. If he is not prepared to move home then it is obvious he has lost the hunger. Not blaming him for that. Maybe he wants to enjoy life and not drop dead of stress at 60.

He's a whinny little **** isn't he? I can't stand Karl Robinson, one of the main reasons I dislike MK Dons...

We finished 45th in the English league last season, if cp wasn't there and curbs wanted the role (neither are likely) we would not be able to do any better than curbs

I agree with CAFC Ted, second time around rarely works out, and anyway, Curbs has a stellar reputation at the Valley and I would'nt want to see him suffer the way Dalgleish has at Liverpool. Still, better Curbs than Pards or Dowie!!

He works hard for the money but so does Chris Powell.
