    An interesting proposition on nufc.blog...

    http://www.nufcblog.com/2012/05/17/young-dutch-striker-expected-to-replace-demba-ba/

News today that Luuk de Jong of FC Twente is being linked with a move to Newcastle.

Newcastle have been watching Steve McClaren’s side quite a number of times this*season, and two players are thought to have impressed the Newcatsle*scouts*are Luuk and their big*Brazilian*center-back Douglas.

The 21 year-old Swiss-born striker has had a phenomenal*season*in the**Eredivisie , and has scored 32 goals in 50 total games for his club.

Luuk still has a deal that runs for*another*two years in Holland, but he is also keen to move to a bigger club:

“I feel ready to take the next step in my career, to do well when the opportunity arises, because I have developed well at Twente. Some opportunities should be grabbed when they come.”

Other top clubs*interested*in this lad are said to include Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Roma, so it will not be easy to bring him to*Tyneside, if*Newcastle*are indeed wanting to do that.

His price tag seems to have risen to around £10M, and we don’t know whether he will*brought*in only if Demba Ba decides to*move*on.

the alternative to that is to bring him in as the 4th striker to*replace*Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best – who are both expected to leave Newcastle this summer.

It’s an*open*question*as to whether Demba**Ba*will move on, but he has already been linked with Chelsea,*Tottenham*and Liverpool.

Alan*Pardew*said*earlier*this week that*Newcastle*will try to sign him to a new contract, but with that release clause in his contract,*Newcastle*could lose him in the summer for peanuts.

The 26-year-old scored 16 goals in the Premier League, *but then went off the boil when he Senegal compatriot*Papiss *Cisse joined in*January, and Papiss scored 13 goals for*Newcastle*in 14 appearances causing Tash to flood his home in Jizz.

And Paris St Germain, his home town club and now very rich with Qatari owners, have also been linked with Demba Ba this year.

Ba signed a three year deal when he joined as a free agent last summer from West Ham, and we’d like to see him sign a new deal to stay on*Tyneside, but at the same time we’d also like to see*Newcastle bring in Luuk*de Jong, as the young striker who can come through at Newcastle.

Luuk joined FC Twente in 2009 from De Graafschap, and the 6’2″ striker has scored 59 goals in 119 appearances for Twente – so far.

Newcastle have been linked with this player for*about*nine months now.

Unlikely as I don't think Ba will leave.

Now I have actually seen this lad play around 5-6 times and he looks a great talent, he makes everything look so easy and is a natural goalscorer type striker ala Shearer, prolific and no nonesense.

Has experience in Europe aswell which could be vital.

Would rather see Ba stay but would have no complaints about De Jong as a replacement. However it just seems like hear say so far, since its a nufcblog article.

If Ba goes for anything above 10M it was good buisness but only if we get in good replacements like this kid.

Heard lots of stories for a while now about the possibility of signing de Jong. Just take them with a pinch of salt. If it happens it happens and I'd like to see him here but I'm not holding my breath.

Das Bost would be another decent one, but again stories with no real foundation as of yet. Which is to be expected this early on I suppose.

Would still like us to bring in a young striker with potential even if we do keep Ba, someone who can keep pushing them.

Also the Montpellier chairman was saying that Giroud has a buy out clause of £9.5m but he he doesn't really, but at the same time he does. It was a really ambiguous statement, yet we know how much Newcastle love a buy out clause.

I think Ba is the most vulnerable from the big performers and this has been reported by more than one, it's early... let's just see.

I heard you very nearly signed De Jong in January, but then the Cisse price tumbled.

He'd me more suited to out left than Ba, but still not a perfect fit for him, he's cracking, but not so pacey, I don't know if out left would work.

Giroud, incidentally, has said himself he wants to go to Bayern.

It's the curse of 4-3-3 as Chelsea demonstrated this season. You need at least two top strikers in your squad. But one will have their nose put out of joint if only one of them plays through the middle. For us though, if say we do get de Jong to replace Ba (not saying there's any truth in it, purely hypothetically) then he needs to be happy and match sharp for the African cup of nations. But surely our best formation involves HBA at the left of the front 3 and Cisse in the middle. It's a difficult balancing act.

Not heard about Giroud and Bayern, not surprised thiugh, other than in the sense they have Gomez and play with one up top. Will be an interesting one.

Giroud would be wasted as Gomez's back up, Spurs should go in for him.

Agree with both on Giroud, he's similar in size to Gomez, but drops deep a lot more, Gomez is perfect for Bayern, Giroud may get caught behind the ball as Ribery and Robben break so sharply.

Giroud is superb, but it's only been one season, in a massively over-performing side

You seen the squad, it makes no sense.

They have some tidy players, Mbiwa, Bedimo, Ait Fana are good, only Giroud & Belhanda are exceptional.

In a league with :Lyon, PSG & Marseille, it's amazing, I hope they get the title, one more game.

They have never won a trophy.

I suspect PSG will invest too much for Montpellier to repeat it though.

Oh, regardless it's been astonishing for them. I pray one day I get to see us win the league (without major investors) before I die.

A flying saucer was supposed to have been seen in Newcastle tonight, maybe it was just a hovering car.
