But one who's girth is increasing exponentially: he took his life into his hands on that beach; I saw a Japanese fishing boat veer in shore when he went for ice creams.

Because he spent his money on Boselli, Stam and Di Santo instead.

    Here is Robbie Savages opinion:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18110505

He believes the owners were fair sacking Dalglish and he feels that Martinez has not yet earned the right to manage a club like Liverpool. He would like to see a manager who has managed in the top half of the table year after year, not some one who just survives relegation. He suggests Klop, O'Neill and Moyes.

I think that it could be a good long-term appointment.
His teams play good football, he's very young for a manager and he's already got 5 years of managerial experience under his belt.
If he's given a chance and a bit of guidance in the transfer market, then I think he'll be a big positive for the club.

Could drop Wigan right in it if he leaves now, though.
    Maybe they'll get Bruce back?

Ok so how are you going to convince Moyes, a loyal servant to one of your biggest rivals for 10 years and Klop, a man who has won the league with Dortmund ready to enter another season in the CL with some of Europe's most wanted talent? Not to mention O'neill who will definitely want a full season with Sunderland <ok>.

Nigel Adkins is who you should be trying.

Moyes is a good manager but it's not very practical is it? I don't consider O'Neill significantly better than Martinez, and he's a lot older.

    One thought.

I know its a different situation, and probably to early to judge. But who would have thought Di Matteo could jump from West Brom to Chelsea so successfully?

I know he may not get the job, or he could collapse Chelsea next season, but I think Di Matteo is quite similar to Martinez.

There are hints that he will be sacked by Chelsea even if he wins the Champions League! Even if he becomes available, his league form has been just as poor as Dalglish's.

I was worried about Martinez until someone reminded me that we could be getting strongly linked with the achieved nothing O'neill, as long as we dont get him I will be satisfied.

The Anfield hierarchy are approaching a number of candidates, with Swansea's Brendan Rodgers also on the shortlist.

If you actually compare the bookies two favourites for the job, Martinez or AVB which would you rather have? The guy that lasted less than a season at Chelsea, due to various reasons including tactical naivety and lack of respect from his players, or the guy that has been in English football for a good few years now, is widely respected as a man and tactically, and has improved the last two clubs he has managed, albeit with limited funds.

If he is given the job, he should get all of our support, whether he was our choice or not.(And he's not my first choice by any means)

Martinez will not last, the fans will not fancy him from day one and rafa will be back mark my words.

What good will THAT do? FFS, Benitez had his chance. We came close in '08 despite him selling Keane and not replacing him, and pissing-off the classiest midfielder we had for two decades. Kenny's been treated abyssmally and FSG = H+G x 2. But, if we're going for a new manger and rebuilding the club, Martinez has all the credentials. Probably should have appointed him last summer and thanked Kenny for steering us away from the bombsite he inherited in January of last year.

We have no divine right to ANYTHING. We were facing relegation and administration @ 18 months ago. It will takefive years, perhaps a decade to become an established top four side again. Why do some people talk of Mourinho, Van Gaal and Christ knows who else. It's not 2005 (when this club was RIPE for BIG development until Moores f00ked up by grasping a few million more <grr>) and we HAVEN'T got City/Chelsea money of a big ground like Utd and Arsenal.

Really would like FSG to f00k the press off by some gesture though.

Because Di Matteo has done nothing other than give in to Chelsea's ego players and letting them play? Because he lets them play in the same way they've always played? Only thing he's done is been a cheerleader and give press interviews about how proud he is of their efforts....not a successful jump imo. Lets see what he does next year, if he even stays.

When Roy was going I'm not ashamed to say I suugested Dematteo and Martinez. Rodgers sounds good too. Someone to rebuild.

Just hope FSG don't think we're automatically entitled to CL and top four, and give whovever it is time. And that applies to the fans too! <whistle>

Is there also an argument that Villas-Boas would be a lot more expensive since Liverpool would have to match his Chelsea wages (presumably high) or he would lose money by taking the job?
