A man walks into a bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender pulls out a shotgun and fires a shot, narrowly missing the man. The man says thank you, tips the bartender and leaves. Why the thank you and why the tip?

I wont post the answer to this as it is a psychological riddle which makes you think and also shows a little about yourself. Don't worry, i am not some kind of mentalist or shrink. I just wonder if you can think of the correct answer. I will PM the posters who have the correct answer so as not to give it away.

If you wish to know more i recommend watching this

The man has hiccups and while a glass of water may have cured it the shock of the shotgun being fired also cures it.

I agree with NZ but he didn't mention the Tip - was the man Scottish and passing over cash also had a shock effect to cure the hiccups.

A man walks into a bar with a crocodile and say's to the Barman 'Do you sell shorts?', 'Yes' comes the reply. 'In that case' The man say's 'I'll have a pint of bitter for myself and a Pigmy for the Croc, please'

More likely that the man was constipated - if a bartender pulled a shotgun on me I'm fairly certain I'd **** myself. Unless of course the shotgun was one of those 'shot' dispensers and it fired a shot of whisky into his water.....

As to the tip, well it only confirms that the man wasn't Scottish - beyond that I'm not sure why it's mentioned.

The man was with his severely disabled wife and was going to add poison to the water so she could drink it and die. The barman shot her narrowly missing the man as his wife was sitting in a wheelchair next to him. As the man had not murdered his wife he gave the barman thanks and a tip for doing the killing for him.

Agree with the Hiccups theory , but if the man didnt know the barman then BB is right , and if the man did know the barman he wouldnt have been as scared . The tip is a bit of a red herring , it is payment for getting rid of the Hiccups.

We do not know if the man asked the bartender for the water.
We do not know who the bartender is shooting at.
We do not know if these two events are connected.
We do not know to whom the man is saying thank you.
We do know that he tips the bartender but not what for.

Does the sex of the bar tender matter and was this person working at the time they shot the gun?

Good point AK the original question said bartender not barman, thus I would conclude a 50% chance that the barperson was female

See now people are answering in the traditional sense. You are over thinking it.

    Was it a "man"?
Do you actually have to be shooting at anything specific??
Tip could be "stop smoking" or "dont eat bananas when at Whipsnade" or "Never trust a man who smells of wee"???
All four events maybe connected. Or not.

    See what you started..????

Probably greater than 50% - remember that the shot missed! ;)

What we also need to know is, did the man actually receive a glass of water and from whom? You were right - the question is flawed. :)

Hmmm, do we know if the bar tender has a legal and up-to-date licence, intended for use in the relevant country, to own a firearm? Discharging the firearm, clearly in a public place, during hours in which members of the public will be in attendance is obviously a very serious issue, but, we must determine whether this clearly unstable bar tender has the right to own the said firearm.

Do we have any further history of the bar tender? Any previous brushes with the law?
