I said this earlier in the season when they sacked the much loved red sox coach whom won them there first world series in something like 50 years. FSG expects results and if you fail to meet them then you will be accountable! I don't like to see Kenny go, but for whatever reason he failed to meet his target of champions league football in a season where the competition for place has been average! Ultimately I think Kenny was always going to be an interim Manager, I think that's why he wasn't given any money to spend in Jan and maybe partly why he failed. At least FSG have done this at the right time, only time will tell if the get the other important decisions right the rest of the summer. I hope at least they have a manager lined up for the job and he should have considerable European experience and pulling power for international European players. I think someone like Ancerlotti or AVB would be good for us, although this might strike more parallels with Chesea's manager history.
Or, and this could be a crazy concept to a lot of people here, we could get behind the club and support the decisions made (whether we agree with them or not) and everyone involved (whether we rate them or not) with Liverpool Football Club (that we all love and want the best for) rather them looking for someone to blame.
If you want success you either buy it (in the prem) or you build over time and EARN it. As I'm presuming we won't be competing with Citeh or Chelski transfer fee/wage wise and Financial Fair Play rules will constrain that kind of thing (to a certain extent) anywayso our other option was to build patiently. Giving managers 6 or 12 months to do it is absurd. Wonder who will be the new manager? And then the one next year? And the one the following xmas? Basically this policy/way of running a club stinks to high heaven
I understand what you are saying but fans, pundits, managers, coaches, etc sitting and pointing the finger at x, y or z is not going to help the situation. Hopefully, a new manager can come in and either give those players a kick up the backside and/or dive into the transfer market to make the necessary improvements. And, if you are going to blame anyone, then the buck ultimately stops with the manager. The manager picks the players, tactics, system, etc, if a player is not performing then don't play them. If the tactics or system are not working then he has the power to change it. If we are conceding too many or not scoring enough, something has to change to make it different. Don't get me wrong, i love Kenny and I didn't want to see him leave, I wanted to see him get another season, but he was the manager and he made the decisions. He had the final say on all incoming transfers so he chose those that came in. Credit to him for sticking by them but not to the detriment of the team.
And how much influence do you think the fans actually had in their departure...? Do you think they cared about the protests??? The marches??? The many fan groups??? Of course they didn't! They left because they ****ed up by giving the power to other people! the only thing that may have helped was the protest to banks when they was trying to re-finance near the end.
I don't doubt for a second they didn't give a flying **** about the fans but the protests most certainly did help. They brought out into public the massive concerns we had around the debt levels, they showed the owners in a very bad light and raised the levels of anxiety levels of many within the club. And rightly so. Granted it was down to the banking crisis that all of a sudden the banks wanted their cash back but the protests certainly put the wind up sponsors and influential people alike. You could also make the point that sacking a legend without giving him a fair crack of the whip and in such a disappointing manner shows a certain disregard for fans feelings could you not?
You could but then, the fans were split on the decision themselves. The owners can't please both parties. As I said above, I wanted to see Kenny get another season and, although his departure was partly expected, i am gutted to see him leave. But, I understand the decision too. People judging or condemning the owners because of it is not going to help. They want to best for the club too. Even if they are in it for the money, there is only one way to make that money and that is by being successful.
But surely that just means we have to sack our manager every time they have a bad run of results then. As I said before had United, Everton or even City with Mancini shown such impatience would they be better off for it? People will cite Chelski as an example of a club it hasn't really hurt but would they not have been better off recently if they still had Maureen or Ancelloti in charge?
Chelsea sack their managers for finishing 2nd/3rd. I rue the day that happens, so at the moment...we are not like Chelsea.
We can only judge them on what their actions are though surely. Kenny has been judged after 18 months so how long before we judge them? Do we wait until its too late? Have they sailed the club through stormy waters or just steered us into a massive **** storm? As far as I'm concerned (naïve a view as it seems to be these days) whoever holds the piece of paper saying "owners" the club belongs to all of us. Except you Kyle ya dildo
Read any/ all of my above posts in response to this Baz. i remember Doug Ellis the success his ruthlesness brought to Villa was staggering...in its mediocrity now Deadly Doug....he knew how to sack a manager alright.
True mate and I hope for all our sakes that you're right and I'm wrong I shall be vigorously waving the "I told you so" banner if it all goes tits up though
I cannot believe people are comparing the two!!!! H&G nearly put us out of business!! FSG finally have the chance to bring in a manager they want. They didn't want Kenny, the fans wanted Kenny and they gave us him but the truth is, he didn't meet their top 4 expectation. Would H&G have reinvested the £50m from Torres?? Like **** they would have! People need to look at the bigger picture
