Hispania are pretty much where they were in 2010. Car performance wise. As are Caterham and Marussia. Disappointingly
The 3 new teams should bugger off. They're wasting grid slots that big companies could have such as VW
VW don't want to come into F1. And judging by the fact there is still one more space in F1 neither does anyone else at the moment.
Although i "liked" this comment, i believe Caterham could stay. They're not that far off the midfield teams, and i think they have potential for points this year. But the other two teams are just a waste of space if i'm honest.
Exactly, what are they offering F1? Nothing. If Caterham don't make strides too, then they can piss off as well.
The only thing i see they're offering is seats. But as you said, another big company could come in and give seats.
There's hardly a great rush of people clamoring for that final grid slot, and all the big teams started somewhere. What would help HRT and Marussia is if the FIA implemented the budget cap they promised when they applied... because if even the midfield teams are in financial difficulties, there's a big issue.
The new teams need to stay. They're trying, and it's not easy. For the last few seasons, everyone has been evolving their car, meaning they had something to start with. These guys are starting from scratch with limited funding. Look at Toyota, they took ages to get anywhere and had HUGE budget. BAR had Honda money, and only did well when Williams and McLaren had messed up, leaving Ferrari to double their points. It's very hard to start a team from scratch, and recent history shows that you need to throw a massive load of cash at it to get anywhere. Considering that,t hese guys are doing really well
I doubt you'd have the co-ordination to do a proper job of it atm, I think you might end up scratching my knee. Back to the matter in hand. I was looking forward to a better season from HRT pre-season, in Australia I was highly disappointed and have given them a bit of stick since, but after reviewing the results I've softened again. HRT started as the dream of a former F1 driver who wanted to go racing, it wasn't a commercial decision like Mercedes, who bought a WDC team, it wasn't a bit of self publicisation like Tony Fernandes and Richard Branson, of all the new team sHRT is the only one that came in it primarily with racing on race day as their priority and goal. They're certainly well ahead of where Minardi were at this time in their history.
OK, I'm happier now, PDLR has out-qualified the Marussia in Canada and now Valencia, I think with a better engine they'd be closer to the pack. Caterham look to be the best of the new bunch, but then they have the engine that has won the last 2 WDC & WCC, they were on par with Williams when Williams had the Cosworth and they had the Renault, now Williams have a better engine look at the difference. I'm not saying HRT would be as good as Williams, but I think if Marussia and HRT had the Renault maybe Caterham wouldn't be the best of the new bunch.
yeah, marussia aren't looking to good, especially when you look at the driver line-ups, PDLR wasn't exactly **** hot when he was in his prime, and Karthikeyan, well, just mentioning his name is enough, and even he outqualified them. I still think Caterham having the Renault is making them look better than they really are, they were battling with Williams until Williams got Renault and left them for dead.
Looks like Pedro being the expert car developer is working a treat. I apologise for comments i made about HRT before, i think it's time to seriously start questioning Marussia now.
I'd like to see them dump Karthikeyan and get a young gun in, but I guess Karthikeyan is paying for PDLRs developments
Strangely, Red Bull don't have any young test drivers this season, so unless they would put Buemi in an HRT with a view to reclaiming a Toro Rosso seat, they aren't really an option.
