I think PNP has hit the nail on the head. True, he has very little time in which to consider major changes. However, some of his selections are just downright illogical. Oh well, yet another punchbag for the red tops!
Probably should've included some more young players, but, does he really care? He knows that he's not going to win this tournament, so why fret about it so much? As long as we don't get destroyed by anyone, and hopefully at least make it out of the group, he'll see it as a measure of success. World Cup qualifiers are where we'll see the real Roy Hodgson England squad
I suppose if we fall flat on our faces ( as usual) it will give him the justification to get the new broom out.
Very disappointing England Squad, Downing, Carroll, Barry.... and Jordan Horrenderson is even on standby! Epic fail!
Off shore? no never off shore El_Bando. Blighters all of 'em blighters I tells ya! Too much of this sort of thing, country's gone to the dogs.
Wow, even worse than expected. To be fair, no team Hodgson could have picked would have looked impressive, and it might be more polite to wait until Hodgson falls down to start kicking him. But I would have voted for out with the old. England can fail just as well with players who may benefit from the experience. Assuming Parker is healthy, 4-2-3-1 seems the way to go, only because there are decent options for nine of the spots, and Parker-Barry looks like a good "2". The problem is the "3-1". Young on one side, Walcott on the other, but who's in the middle and who's the striker? Gerrard strikes me as definitely past it, Lampard can't score in a tournament, Rooney can't score, disgraces the team and doesn't even try. So that leaves...well, I'm not sure. I'd try Johnson-Young-Walcott, on the theory that Johnson and Young both play on the left and cut in, so they could take turns playing in the middle and the left. The striker needs to be a good hold up man, and it would be really fantastic if he had a good international goal scoring record. Says it all Hodgson left Crouch home and is trying Carroll. Though his work with Downing should give them both a lot of experience with total failure. As for Defoe: well, he does score goals in general, and scored the only one that really helped England in the world cup. So not a bad choice. But he's absolutely not a lone striker. Should have been Crouch, Holt and maybe Zamorra. Not including Richards is crazy. I agree with leaving Sturridge at home. He never passes. Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard and Terry shouldn't have been picked. It's time to fail with new blood. Lennon should have gone. The one thing this team has, potentially, is speed, and bringing slow veterans while leaving out fast players like Lennon seems crazy.
Taking downing is a joke. Adam Johnson? Micah Richards? Lescott over Vincent Kompany? I am glad lennon isn't in the squad - rest his hamstring for the new season And I nearly pissed myself when I saw Henderson was a standby...
Oh well. At least I won't have to bother taking any time off work to see matches. What a shower of ****..... (Scotty not included. Boy, what an enjoyable summer he has to look forward to. Note to Parker: Terry is included so better leave the missus at home).
leave superal alone........Al ive got some great stuff for you to smoke...pm me if your intrested..i think your a dab hand with the rizlas.
Rio, Lennon, Adam Johnson, Jagielka, Micah Richards, Sturridge, Crouch, Carrick all left out is absolutely disgusting. England won't qualify from the group with the squad Woy has picked. Carroll had about 5 half decent games towards the end of the season and that is enough to get him chosen over strikers that actually did well like Crouch, Sturridge and Holt. Downing had no assists and no goals in 36 league games yet goes over Lennon? Terry taken over Rio and making out its because Rio is injured prone when in fact most of the season he hasn't been.
don't think we would have qualified anyway, even our best player's are'nt good enough, and not enough coming through
And no Beckham how can he leave our tallyman (talisman!) out. Who will bend it? Kyle has broken his toe! I suppose you can't get it all wrong!
I didnt expect anything less from Roy - apart from Ruddy and the 'Ox' its the same old same old. The inclusion of Downing is just laughable and no space for Carrick is nothing short of extraordinary. In a selfish manner at least lennon will get a rest this summer. He has had niggling injuries this year and at least the time off will give his hamstrings time to heal! I think the inclusion of jermaine is the right one as he is ideal for coming off the bench and knicking a goal. Anyway come the first game against France i will not be holding my breath expecting to see free flowing good attacking football. A total dissapointment!
