Why? There was nothing in the make up of Liverpool's Squad last August to suggest that they should finish in the Top4, so who is setting the objectives at LFC? And on what possible basis? Think Kenny has been very harshly treated, not by sharp, ruthless operators, but by ignorant people, with no knowledge of the demands of The Premier League. The Manager's office will have a new nameplate, but if the Squad remains largely the same, and the expectation of Champions League Qualification is repeated, then you can expect another change in 12 months time.
This is pretty much my thinking currently...I'm not sure they're being fair with their demands. Too much too soon and in a complicated game to get right also.
I'm sure Comolli and Kenny would have said they expected top 4 after 120m spent. Most likely why they've gone.
The thing is, we were not even close to 4th. If your set a target and are that far away then there will be consequences, what ever your job is. You turn against Downing for getting no goals or assists. His target was goals and assists. You turned against him because he did not reach his target. Our squad is pretty even to Spurs squad, pretty much matching hem in every position. In fact, our defence is better than there. But they got top 4, and we were not even close. Arsenal lost there most valuable player and had a terrible start to the season, miles worse than ours. They got top 4. If you make a combined team of our players and Arsenal players, I bet it will have more Liverpool players than Arsenal players. I am not having a dig at Kenny here, he has done a great job and I'd happily have seen him stay. But I just want to show that the owners targets were realistic, and important stages in the rebuilding of this club. Those targets were not reached, or even close to being reached. At least wait till Christmas to judge this decision by the owners, if not the end of next season, or the end of the new managers contract.
We were right there in January, semis of CC, still in FA, and 4 points off fourth. After that Arsenal loss it just went downhill from there.
By your same logic Bluff the owners job is to hire a successful team: they failed. How long or how many chances do we give them?
Friedel - Reina - L Walker - Johnson - Even King - Skrtel - L Dawson - Agger - L Asso Eckotto - Enrique - Not sure Lennon - Henderson - S Parker - Lucas - L Modric - Gerrard - Even Bale - Downing - S Van Der Vaart - Suarez - L Adebayor - Carroll - Not sure L - Liverpool S - Spurs Just my opinion of course. We only loose out on the wings. We are stronger in centre back.
It is the 2 way coin. We have seen the growth off the field, this is there chance to make the statement, I have said that numerous times already. If you think I am backing them just because they are American or something like that you are wrong. I also said we should have given Kenny another year but could see the change happening. Let's see how this next year pans out I say. ( again)
No no mate; I know better than that. I can see both sides to be fair, just playing devils advocate & reminding people including myself that the very people that for the last month have wondered round with the firing stick saying "your fault" wandered round touching the same people with the hiring stick 18 months ago. I hope & pray they learn very very fast.
Irrespective of the comparative Head to Heads, no point arguing it's all a matter of opinion... You have encompassed the warped thinking behind the expectation level and the ensuing managerial departure. The Squad of 11.
It is ruthless these days, that is for sure. I just can't see them going small this summer, they will have to know what Kenny meant and know that someone with a good record and let's be honest, a huge set of stones, can come in and take the club forward. Adn here we all thought we wouldn't have anything to talk about all summer!!
I think a top four finish would/should have been realistic. We spent very big and our squad is not the thinnest by any means. Many people have said at the start of the season that our squad had more potential than that of the mancs. It was a question of getting together a team to deal with the expectations in the premiership. The mancs EXPECT to finish top 4 at least and we should be the same. I have said that Kenny didn't have the ability as a manager to get the best out of his players on a consistent basis. That is why the team performs against some top teams, in cups but in the routine league matches against mid/low placed teams his teamshave been poor. We can blame individual players all we like but at the end of the day the manager takes responsibility.
Ah well there's the problem solved then. Why did nobody else think of that. So the next manager will obviously be............
They will spend nothing. What they will say is that the new manager needs the season to sort out who to keep. Theses yanks are good at string us along. They did it with the stadium, they did it in Jan and now they have another excuse already lined up.
We will see, I won't jump to anything just yet. I think someone posted they are talking to SKY right now? Still thought Kenny should have got another year but it is what it is and I hope they get the right one.
They set top 4 at the start and we all thought it was reasonable - we even had a shot until the loss against Arsenal. If we had finished 5th I doubt he would have gone but Newcastle almost got 4th so I don't think it was unreasonable to suggest we should have been at least fighting for it.
