As daft as it may sound, I've always felt American Owners, despite their wealth of knowledge in Business Terms, and experience / track record of success(es/ish), simply don't get the Transfer System. As as if they are told by advisers that; Yes you pay a fee Yes you pay them wages and then Yes they can just walk away at the end for nothing But they think, "Nah, that can't be right..."
Have to completely disagree. - They've been here for a year and a half, if even. Do you expect a stadium? They cost tens of millions to even get STARTED. - At least we're no longer selling for £20M and buying in ****e on the cheap. - Most people hated Rafa at the end and you know that very well. Did Kenny have our support?
No, instead we buy ****e for £20M. But thats not FSG's fault, thats the DoF fault who was appointed by FSG cause of the moneyball ideas they wanted to install. MONEYBALL??? Who thought that'd be a good idea?
And by the way guys, we need to wake up. We have decent owners. Not ultra-rich, but smart and ruthless. -We need drastic improvement to reach the CL. That means a few good players in. -Kenny is a good guy but we weren't good enough. We just weren't. -Would we have trusted Kenny to bring in the good, foreign, players we need? Realistically - no. -We don't have the divine right to win all the time, and no reason to believe one or two minor tweaks will change anything. We need a big shift back on track. We look like we're getting one. -This season has hurt like no other I've experienced, and Kenny's tactics and rotation policy had something to do with it. However - How will this affect players who Kenny signed or had influence in securing? Ie. Downing, Henderson and Adam. They MUST be thinking to themselves 'it's our fault he's not got a job anymore'. Will they stand up or will they crumble? We'll see. - Injury, form and pure bad luck has played a part. - He did (or at least sanction) the acquisitions of Suarez and Enrique.
What I was saying was the sensationalistic tone of the OP was slightly misguided. The quality (or lack thereof) of the signings doesn't come in to it fortunately! They tried something that we all thought looked a good theory at the time, it didn't work, they've fired the guy that was in charge of it. As I said, ruthless, realistic. Good signs.
I think long term, our owners will come good - but I think they're really nieve about what it takes to create a winning team. It's not simple like baseball, you can't buy cheap players with good stats and turn it around fast. Do they recognise good football? Because honestly, our football has been fantastic at times. Yes, not always the result, but that's an easier fix than changing a performance. Our football style is much improved over previous years and we were, in most people's opinion, 2/3 signings away from top 4. Our league position was awful, but our football isn't bad! Kenny just needed the time to continue his work and next year to bring through some more youth. Oh well, they've cut him out. Now what? The next manager needs to maintain our footballing philosphy or improve it or the fans will get on their backs. That rules out alot of managers already. Leaving top drawer managers who'll want serious funds (more than last summer's 45million) to rebuild the squad (again) to their style. That's gonna take more time and more experimenting. I don't think the owners will supply that cash, and I don't think they'll give more time than 12months...who'd take up that challenge? Can't help but think they're just adding to the problems currently. They need to really take a step backwards and look at the bigger picture imo.
Stop the ridiculous articles. Stadium - The new owners have been working hard to look into this. They actually spend millions on stopping Hicks and Gillettes stadium plans from ages ago because they were unrealistic. They have spoken repeatedly to Liverpool councel and the local community about the possibility of redevoping Anfield and the possibilities of Stanley Park. Spending - When we sold Robbie Keane, Rafa expected the funds to buy a replacement. But instead H&G pocketed it and we never saw it again. H&G took money away from us and greated mamoth debths that almost destroyed us forever. Since the new owners took over, they have paid of every penny of those debts. Our club is safe and free to build a bright future. Under H&G we would have never got to spend the Torres money on two new strikers, let alone in the same day as we got it. The money we got from other transfers out would have gone to RBS and we would have spend closer to £20million than £120million. But our debts are gone, so we can spend with freedom. Why should FSG put there own money on transfers if the club already has enough profits already? They also announced Kenny could spend in January. Sacking managers - You take over an under achieving club with no faith in its manager and a risk of relegation or a player exile. What would you do? Your club then has its worse season in 54 years when you set targets to improve. What would you do? We owe so much to these owners already that they should have a banner in the cop. Which will grow to a giant banner when we win the league. Mark Hughes was doing pretty well at City. But would they be where they are if they hadnt sacked him? I think not. I would have happily seen Kenny get another season. But I understand the owners decision and stand by them.
Sorry I don't understand this "they haven't spent any money because of net spend". The fact is, they didn't have to give Kenny £100million to spend. Just because we got £80mil from Torres, Babel & Meireles, doesn't mean that £80mil had to be put back into the transfer budget but the fact they did signalls their intent to invest in this club. Remember we only lost 3 players, so it wasn't like we had £100mil to buy a brand new team. We had £100mil to replace 3 players that were lost which should have been more than enough. jkielq91 - Probably should have read your post as pretty much just re-written what you've said! Agree 100% though.
Actually the first few transfer windows H&G did actually put money into transfers, after thats a different story. I am looking forward to seeing what the plan is and who we bring in, I just think a season more of patience, some consistency would have been more advisable, and it didn't work they could have then moved Kenny on and atleast say they gave him a chance, right now we look like a sacking club and the next man is under huge pressure, what happens if we are 8th in January? What if his signings don't settle straight away?
Man City spent over £300 million (net) to just get in the top 4, if you are not counting sales Chelsea spent £170mill odd to get were they are in the same period we spent that £100 mill and thats with a team that won the league 2 seasons ago. You say we only lost 3 players, but the previous 2 seasons we ended up 7th and 6th (only because Kenny took over, who knows were we would have ended if not) so we were not a top 4 team at that time. All the clubs above us have stability, bar Chelsea and look what has happened to them
What did happen? They won a double 2 years ago and could be on for another......this stability BS is overrated.
this stuff is a load... the only thing to say today is the LFC website is completely ignoring the thing the actual fans they need to buy stuff in terms of news or reasons etc. This allied to the sacking of just about everyone in any sort of role a tthe club would indicate something rather poor right now.
I've had enough for one night. The dredging up of the Evra bollox is just too much for me. The media have their long knives out, and I feel like an antelope being eaten alive by hyenas.
Its obvious isn't it? You said it yourself, 2 seasons ago they had a double winning team, 2 managers later and they finsish 6th.
With an FA Cup and a CL final to go. We'be had a CC in 6 years. I like the sound of their instability.
Well yeah Id love to be going to a champions league final right now, but if my club had won the double 2 seasons ago, won 3 League titles in 7 years, finishes no lower than 3rd, spent a fortune, I would probably question the decision to consistently change management when you end up 6th.
Writing was on the wall over the Suarez business - they 'backed' Kenny to the hilt.... until the press started muttering their self-fulfilling prophecies about it affecting the Fenway worldwide brand. Then they sh@t themselves and showed their true colours. Some of us wrote then that they're no better than H&G, and so they're turning out. Ironically, for those that remember the old 606, I was one of a few who cautioned Kenny's return and saw him only as a caretaker; and yes, I was one of a few who touted DeMatteo and Martinez. Pisspotical ideas of Mourhino and such like are farcical - who the f00k wants to come to a middle of the table team with owners who want to finish fourth or above but don't want to spend any more than H&G. Ludicrous not to have given Kenny another year. Should just ask the Sunday Supplement ****ehawks (and The Ferguson Association) who they will allow us to pick as manager. Please God who don't have some arselicker who licks the crusty bits off the knobs of SkySports interviewers.
