Realistically we have the following players who have enough form or age in their side to return value: Crouch - I rekon we would get about 8 million he is a year older and big earner, depending on appearences, goals, international games etc.... Shawx - 10 million, based on the fact that he is english, home grown and a few years younger than Huth Huth - 8 million, international player who has been the strongest defender for us, maybe abit brutish for top 4 clubs? Begovic - 3 million, form has been up and down and would probably jump at a chance to move. Palcious - 5 million max! Hasn't played for 12 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ethrington - Out of form and showing his age 3 million. Pennington - Free - Who would want him? Jones - 3.5 million. Hasn't played for 12 months and his previous form when playing in the prem was woeful! Jerome - 4 million. I think we would get back what we paid as any decent manager would see his pace and strength as an asset. Wilson - 3 million. Who is he, where does he play, can he play? These would probably be the questions a new manager would ask. Whelan/Whitehead - 2 million each, probably to a championship club or a newley promoted prem team with a low wage structure. Delap/Sidibie/Diao/ - FREE - To old, to slow etc.................................. Wilko - 2 million Shotton - 3 million - More pace and strength than Wilko and also younger. Upson/Woody - Free - To old, to slow, big wages. Walters - 3 million Fuller - Free THE REST - 10 Million (MAX) TOTAL Value Approx 70 million The issue is, that to reinvent the squad we would need to shift players out to make funds and space available. The ones we need to replace have very little value given that our best 6 or 7 players are worth 45 million!
That's very useful information Smithers though I think you may be too generous in your assessment of the resale value of some of our squad. Therefore it would cost us more to carry out a major overhaul and I don't think that we can afford to do that. I am not sure that PC will allow Pulis to spend vast amounts so it is likely that we will have to go with the bulk of what we have, which means we could struggle next season IMO.
Thats my concern, the players we need to move on are worth very little, so what can we hope to replace them with?
The obvious choice is youngsters but Mr P won't play them. We may have to sell a few to get 1 half decent player.
Found this site last night, your valuations are pretty close to all of theirs. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/stoke-city/startseite/verein_512.html I hope needing to sell to buy doesn't mean we need the transfer budget, otherwise it's not promising, but I think (or hope) they are referring to wages and getting rid of players who ain't gonna play.
Just a thought fellas .... Coates has said we need to get rid of players to bring money in ! As in we might not be spendin much in the summer .. Now we all know another 20 mill is req to move on and upwards Just makes me wonder if Coates is gettin twitchy about Pulis at long last over the style of play ? We all know there is some deadwood about but worth not a lot !! So is Coates finally losin patience ? who knows I do think 1 thing Pulis is an insurance policy every yr to a another 60 mill bounty as stoke will not go down with him in charge !!!! But is he fed up of watchin borin crap week after week ? Who knows ...
Maybe, but it might just be that he was promised X amount for the "3 year plan" and that money has now been spent. To move forward and make the club as profitable as possible (after all he is a business man) we are going to have to create value within our squad to fund the evolution of it! I dont think it is driven by style, because survival is everything!
